Tottenham Hotspur confirm arrival of Corinthians star Paulinho
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Paulinho from Corinthians. The Brazil international has arrived at White Hart Lane after Tottenham Hotspur paid Corinthians £17 million fee in transfer fees.
The 24-year-old midfielder, who passed his medical test on Friday last week, will join the Tottenham Hotspur squad next week when the club’s manager Andre Villas-Boas starts the preseason training.
“First, I want to thank Tottenham for believing in me,” Paulinho said in an interview to Tottenham Hotspur’s official website.
“I am very happy and excited to have joined Spurs. It's a huge pleasure for my career to be at a club as big as Tottenham. I know it will be a huge challenge but I think I can help all my colleagues to succeed and give a lot of happiness to the supporters.
“The Training Centre is amazing and I'm very impressed about the conditions Tottenham offers to the players. I will focus on my job and use the facility as much as possible.”
Paulinho received many endorsements before from his new teammates before his arrival. Sandro was one of the leading players to ask Paulinho to join Tottenham Hotspur. Sandro, who finally cemented his place after four years on and off the bench, claims Paulinho will do well at the club.
Paulinho hailed his new club and admitted he was eager to meet his new teammates, especially Sandro.
“We used to watch the Premier League in Brazil – including Tottenham – and this club has big players,” Paulinho added. “I just want to help them to succeed here. It's nice to have another Brazilian in the squad and I'm excited to meet with Sandro and all the players.”
Paulinho made a huge impact with Cortinthians in the Brazilian Serie A league. The central midfielder scored 20 goals in 86 league games and led his club to the league title in 2011. Paulinho also has won Copa Libertadores and the FIFA Club World Cup with Corinthians.
Paulinho played pivotal role in Brazil’s Confederations Cup victory last month. The midfielder also scored a crucial goal in the tournament.
