Tottenham Hotspur confirm selling Luka Modric to Real Madrid
Tottenham Hotspur has agreed to the sale of their coveted midfield star Luka Modric. Following a year full of transfer speculation about Luka Modric, Real Madrid has finally won the bragging rights for the Croatian.
Both clubs informed about the end of Luka Modric’s transfer saga in a news update on Monday. Luka Modric will fly to Madrid later on Monday to undergo the medical examinations, which will be the last barrier standing in between Luka Modric and his debut for Real Madrid.
Luka Modric, who will be inking a four-year contract with Real Madrid, will be the first summer signing for the La Liga champions. According to initial reports, Real Madrid has paid around €30 million for the 26-year-old Croatia international.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is finally relieved off the responsibility to keep Luka Modric at White Hart Lane. Nonetheless, Daniel Levy could do little after Luka Modric handed in his transfer request this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur released an official statement from the club on Monday which clearly stated that the Spurs had agreed to sell Luka Modric to Real Madrid.
“The club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to medical, to the Spanish club,” the statement read.
“The partnership agreement will see the two clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.”
Daniel Levy also came in front of media to talk about Luka Modric’s transfer move.
“Luka has been a terrific player for us and, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership,” Daniel Levy said.
Luka Modric’s addition to Real Madrid’s squad will encourage Jose Mourinho to sell off of loan the club’s veteran midfielder Kaka.
Kaka has been linked with a stunning return to AC Milan this summer. With just four days remaining in the transfer window, Real Madrid are expected to make quick responses to Luka Modric and Kaka’s transfer sagas.
