Tottenham Hotspur fails to sign in Leandro Damiao from Internacional
Tottenham Hotspur have failed to secure the services of Internacional striker Leandro Damiao. The Brazilian striker has been heavily linked with a switch to the English Premier League since last summer.
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are believed to be strong suitors for Leandro Damiao, although none of these clubs have come near the asking price of Internacional.
Internacional director Marcelo Medeiros has informed that Tottenham Hotspur’s failure to sign in Leandro Damiao is the result of low bids. Marcelo Medeiros admitted Tottenhan Hotspur had been trying to negotiate a deal, but their offer was far “below what we wanted”,
Nonetheless, the chase for Leandro Damiao is not over yet. The Brazil international can still arrive at White Hart Lane this summer. According to reports, Leandro Damiao is set for a summer exit from Internacional.
The possibility of a move on the last day of January transfer window was sparked by comments made by the sporting director of Internacional Luis Cesar Souto de Moura.
“Leandro Damiao will only leave if there is a very quick negotiation, but no official offer has been made,” Souto de Moura told Correio do Povo, a Brazilian newspaper on Thursday.
“The news involving interest for Leandro Damiao, especially from Tottenham, will always happen - they come and go.”
A report from The Guardian claims Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign in Leandro Damiao with a £13.3 million bid. The report also suggested that Internacional’s asking price was around £17 million.
“Leandro Damiao won't leave - the offer was below what we wanted,” Marcelo Medeiros told Globo Esporte earlier today.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas was keen on bolstering his attack, although he had announced there was very little chance of new arrivals at White Hart Lane this fall.
With the Emanuel Adebayor currently at the African Nations Cup, Tottenham Hotspur are solely reliant on Jermain Defoe. The England international is one of the two strikers Andre Villas-Boas has in his entire squad.
