According to reports flying in from England the Croatian midfielder Luka Modric will indeed play for Real Madrid this season. Tottenham Hotspur has agreed to transfer Luka Modric to Real Madrid for €42 million. The deal was agreed on Saturday, but it will be completed on Monday.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was suffering from sleepless nights due because of the delay in Luka Modric’s transfer. With just five days remaining in the transfer window Real Madrid increased efforts to bring Luka Modric to Santiago Bernabeu and well their efforts paid off.
Luka Modric has been under the spotlight since last summer when Chelsea and Manchester United attempted to lure him in. Since then a number of top notch clubs have attempted to sign him in, but the hefty price tag on Luka Modric drove away most clubs. Nonetheless, Paris-Saint Germain, Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus tried to sign him again this season.
The 26-year-old midfielder has had one foot out of White Hart Lane ever since Real Madrid stepped in to sign him. Luka Modric handed in a transfer request this summer and threatened to leave the club as a free agent next summer if he wasn’t traded off.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy begged Luka Modric to extend his contract with Whites of England, but the Croatia international couldn’t snub his dream move to Real Madrid.
Although, Luka Modric’s deal with Real Madrid falls short of the £40 million Daniel Levy demanded, the London club wants to put an end to this long and tiring transfer saga.
According to rumors, Luka Modric has inked a five-year-contract with Real Madrid. The transfer has been beneficial for Tottenham Hotspur as well. Tottenham Hotspur have now established goodwill with Real Madrid, which means they will be able to sign in players on loan and ask Real Madrid for exhibition matches.
The new Tottenham Hotspur manager Andres Villas-Boas is expected to call a news conference on Monday in which he will talk about Luka Modric’s transfer to Real Madrid and the midfielder he is going to sign in as his replacement.
