Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has fired an ominous warning towards Inter Milan ahead of their Europa League clash. The Portuguese gaffer, who came to helm last year, believes his Welsh superstar Gareth Bale has become more dangerous than he was back when Tottenham Hotspur destroyed Inter Milan in a Champions League battle in 2010.
Inter Milan would certainly remember Gareth Bale, the speedster who tore through their right-wing to score a brilliant hat-trick at San Siro. Inter Milan full back Maicon was supposed to keep Gareth Bale at bay, but the Wales international produced a showdown of superb speed and jaw-dropping talent to leave the Brazilian in rags.
Tottenham Hotspur are placed third in the Premier League, two point away from fourth-placed Chelsea. Andre Villas-Boas and Co. prepare for a trip to Anfield on Sunday, but before that the London outfit will have to face Inter Milan.
Andre Villas-Boas believes Tottenham Hotspur can come out as victors from the Thursday bout at White Hart Lane. The former Chelsea manager has predicted Gareth Bale to produce another spectacular show against their Italian adversaries.
“I think Gareth has evolved as player. He is even more threatening now,” Andre Villas-Boas said in his pre-match press conference. “I remember seeing the highlights of Inter - Tottenham, and how Tottenham came back into the game late on.
“Maicon was an outstanding right-back, one of the Brazilian right backs, so to see a young player like Gareth play like he did against him demonstrates his talent.
“Now, two years on, he plays in a different position. He's become a different player; a bigger player and a more complete player. He's the kind of player who can determine the outcome of a game, as we've seen in recent matches.”
Meanwhile, Inter Milan manager Andrea Stramaccioni is spending sleepless nights thinking about how to keep Gareth Bale in check. The Italian boss declares his side will have to be on their toes throughout the game since they are playing under a defensive injury crisis.
Inter Milan will have to play without Matias Silvestre and Yuto Nagatomo. There is a possibility of Inter Milan also losing the services of their star center-backs Andrea Ranocchia and Walter Samuel.
“My team should be aware of Bale's strengths, but obviously, the problem now is I don't have too many players available,” Andrea Stramaccioni said. “This is a very important game for us, but unfortunately we have lots of injuries.
“We gave a few of them tests this morning, but most of them are still struggling and we don't want to risk anyone. The Europa League is important, but we don't want anyone to get longer-term injuries. Our main target is third place in our league. That's why we brought six young players here. It's going to be difficult.”
