Toure confident in Liverpool’s abilities as Arsenal trip grows nearer
Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has urged his teammates to return with glory from the Emirates this season. The Ivorian center back believes Liverpool can bring Arsenal their second home defeat this week on Saturday.
Toure has played an important role in Liverpool’s evolving defense this season, as manager Brendan Rodgers experiments with a four-man defense and sweeper as well as a three-man central defense.
The 32-year-old Ivory Coast international has played a role in both strategies successfully. However, Toure has warned his teammates against Arsenal’s impressive attacking line up which includes players like Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla.
The former Arsenal defender, who spent seven years at Arsenal before being sold to Manchester City in 2009, backed Rodgers tactics and asked Liverpool fans to show faith in the Anfield boss.
“Of course it will be difficult but we are a strong team and we have a great manager as well,” Toure said. “They know that we pose a threat to them too and they know it will be a tough game for them.”
Liverpool also have an impressive arsenal of attack. Daniel Sturridge is the Premier League’s leading goalscorer with eight goals. On the other hand, Luis Suarez has been in stunning form as well.
Suarez returns to Liverpool after spending a great deal of time on the bench. The Uruguayan hit-man has faced a couple of difficult months following the ten-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
Suarez had made it clear that he no longer desired to stay at Liverpool. The 26-year-old striker even handed in his transfer request. Suarez, who scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over West Bromwich Albion, also believes he made the right decision by staying at Liverpool.
“I haven’t seen many better hat-tricks than Luis' against West Brom,” Toure said. “All three were great goals. Both Luis and Daniel are amazing players and there is a great understanding between them.
“I wouldn’t fancy having to mark either of them. When you have players like that in the squad and you train with them every day, it makes you even better.”
