Blog Photo - Tuesday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 10/15Greetings, puckheads! I don't know about you, but I'm about as excited that these hockey threads are back as I am about hockey in general being back. Debi, Kramer, and I will be doing these every day that there are more than just a few games - and we will have guest panelists too! If you'd like to be a guest panelist, let us know!

There's been some pretty awesome hockey this season so far, and we have several months of it left to enjoy. Ahhh, I love this time of year! Let's get down to business...

7:00pm - Wild (3-1-2) @ Maple Leafs (5-1-0)
Broadcast: FS-N, SNET-O
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - The Wild are showing strength this year but the Leafs are surprisingly red hot! Leafs it is.

BK - I have to take the Leafs in this one, they are off to a roaring start.

Jess - I'm feeling a lot of upsets tonight. It's early. Wild surprise the Leafs in Toronto.

7:00pm - Sabres (0-6-1) @ Islanders (2-2-1)
Broadcast: MSG-B, BELL TV, MSG PLUS
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Oh those poor Sabres I keep saying they have to win one some day...but I don't think today is that day.

BK - I agree, it's sad to see the Sabres fall so hard. Lindy Ruff is laughing at the team for firing him, this proves it's not his fault they were so bad last year. I'm taking Buffalo for my upset pick of the night.

Jess - No, Debi? I don't know - it's not as if the Isles are dominating. I'm calling the upset here too.

7:00pm - Canucks (3-3-0) @ Flyers (1-5-0)
Broadcast: SNET-P, CSN-PH
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Ugh. I really hope Philly has it in them cuz no way no how am I picking Vancouver.

BK - I share Debi's sentiments, but the other way around. No way no how owl I ever pick the Flyers. Canucks win this.

Jess - Uhm. Canucks.

7:00pm - Oilers (1-4-1) @ Penguins (4-1-0)
Broadcast: SNET-W, ROOT
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Two teams I dislike equally. Oh we'll Pens it is.

BK - Need you ask? Let's go Pens!

Jess - Penguins take this one at home. (I thought the Oilers were going to be much better this season.)

7:00pm - Blackhawks (3-1-1) @ Hurricanes (2-2-2)
Broadcast: CSN-CH, FS-CR
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - I really think Chicago will take this but I don't think it will be a walk in the park. I'm really impressed with the Canes so far this season, and with coach Muller's insight. A juggle here and a substitute there has the team battling. They have a great chance to win it. Ah heck. I'll take the Avs for the win here.

BK - The Canes are going to be tough to beat, but I think the Hawks will be able to take them.

Jess - Once again, calling the upset! Hurricanes at home.

7:30pm - Kings (4-2-0) @ Lightning (3-2-0)
Broadcast: FS-W, SUN
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - The Kings

BK - A good defensive team against one of the league's most potent offenses, something's gotta give. I'll take the Kings for an impressive road win but it will be tough.

Jess - This will be a fun game to watch; I'll be flipping between this one and the Avs tonight toward the end of this game. Kings win.

8:00pm - Blue Jackets (2-2-0) @ Red Wings(4-2-0)
Broadcast: FS-O, FS-D
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - I'm so glad I can hate Detroit honestly. Columbus it is.

BK - Columbus pulls off the stunner at The Joe.

Jess - Am I remembering correctly - isn't this usually a fun, close game? I want to call the Blue Jackets here, but if I'm being honest I'm pretty sure the Wings take this one.

8:00pm - Sharks (5-0-0) @ Blues (4-0-0)
Broadcast: TSN, NBCSN
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Game if the night. One team will come out of this with their unbeaten streak broken. While I'm impressed with the caliber of play from both squads, gut feeling is the Blues prevail.

BK - I agree, game of the night! I think the Blues are the ones who keep the perfection intact on home ice tonight.

Jess - This will be another great game. Blues, only because they're at home.

8:00pm - Panthers (2-4-0) @ Predators (2-3-0)
Broadcast: FS-F
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Neither of these teams has their skates under them just yet. I'll take the Preds.

BK - Nashville takes this one, the Panthers are still too inconsistent.

Jess - Preds

8:00pm - Canadiens (3-2-0) @ Jets (3-3-0)
Broadcast: RDS, TSN-HABS, TSN-JETS
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Both teams have a few wins, but the Jets have a couple more losses. I really like the Jets and want them to win but I think the Habs take this one.

BK - This is tough, but I will take the Jets at home.

Jess - Another well matched game - sometimes two mediocre teams give us the most entertainment. I'm picking the Habs, just because you guys picked the Jets and I like to stand out in a crowd.

9:00pm - Stars (2-2-0) @ Avalanche (5-0-0)
Broadcast: FS-SW, ALT
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Hahahahahaha!!!! Avs

BK - Avs have this one, Roy keeps the magic going in Denver.

Jess - I'm pretty sure I don't even need to type anything here.

9:00pm - Senators (1-2-2) @ Coyotes (4-2-0)
Broadcast: SNET-E, TVA, FS-A
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Those poor Senators. What an ugly road trip to open the season. I just don't think they have a chance tonight.

BK - I think this will be a fairly even game. In the end, home team takes the night cap.

Jess - I'm still a little mad at the Coyotes right now...and Bobby Ryan is with Ottawa. Sens.

And of course, I can't kick things off here tonight without a video of some goalie goodness. Enjoy!

Who are your picks tonight? Who are you watching? Q it up here for Tuesday night hockey on FanIQ!

And I couldn't even type THAT correctly....

Holy crap, Avs = 6 in a row.

So, Mexico lost...but the US scored in stoppage time to tie it up with Panama, which keeps them behind Mexico. The US then scored again to win the match and truly break Panama's hearts. Mexico still has to win a two leg playoff with New Zealand to qualify for the World Cup, but they are still alive thanks to us. De nada Mexico.

Guess home ice advantage didn't really matter for the Blues...Sharks remain undefeated.

10/15/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Mexico is about 5 minutes away from missing the World Cup.

Nah, it's okay - I usually do one, so of course it made sense that I was probably going to do one today. I should have hollered! Communication is key

Sorry about that - the hockey threads take a little bit more time and focus than the all-sports one so I got a bit hung up...thanks for the update!

So, there's no thread for the other sports, so...

Cards are up 3-2 in the 6th.

Mexico is losing to Costa Rica, and Panama is beating the US*. If that holds, Mexico misses the World Cup completely.

* The US already qualified for the WC, and most of our top guys aren't playing, so don't freak out about this.

Buffalo finally has their first win of the year in the shootout over the Isles.  That means the last winless team is...the DEVILS?! indecision

10/15/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Whew, Pens hold on for a 3-2 win.  The Oilers are a vastly improved team even though their record may not show it just yet.  Pens are 4-0 at home to start the year.

10/15/13   |   Jess   |   34636 respect

Lindy Ruff is the stuff that nightmares are made of. Fitting, he's with Dallas.

10/15/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

"Make me a milkshake, Malkin!"  Pens retake the lead 3-2 on the PP, and Geno now has a goal against every team in the NHL!

10/15/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Pens & Oilers are tied 2-2 after 2 periods.  Pens have about 10 seconds of PP time to start the 3rd period.

Awww.  I hope Shea Weber and the Preds remembered their skates tonight.  We need a win, no matter who it's against.

10/15/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

"Call Arnold Slick from Turtle crick."  Pens lead 1-0 after one period, outshooting the Oilers 15-3.  The Oilers will have a 5-on-3 to start the 2nd period though.

The Rangers are off tonight, so at least that can't get blown out today.

Will be working late tonight.  So it's Dan Rusanowski on the Sharks radio network for me.  At least for the first 30 minutes I should think.
