Tuesday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 3/5

Will the Wild stop the Blackhawks or are they just the next to get steamrolled? [NHL Live Thread]

Blog Photo - Thursday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 3/5Greetings puckheads, and Happy Tuesday! Are you ready for some excellent hockey to cap off your day?

The Blackhawks continue to solidify their spot in history, hoping to get their 20th 2013 regular season win against Minnesota tonight. Adding their 22-game point streak this year to their run starting on March 25 of last season makes 28 consecutive regular season games in which they've earned at least a point. Will they continue that streak tonight and beat the Wild to reach 29? Unless they experience a monumental collapse, I think it's safe to say they'll be taking home some team hardware of some sort as well as that record this year.

Even against sub-par teams, Chicago is some fun hockey to watch this year. They're not the only entertaining team on the slate tonight though. As with every Tuesday this season, we have a nice big slate of games to choose from that will fill most of our evening. Schedule is as follows, all times eastern:

7:00pm

Game: Lightning (9-12-1) @ Devils (10-7-5)
Broadcast: SUN, MSG PLUS
Bet QBucks on this game!
Blog Photo - Thursday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 3/5
Picks:
Debi - I know Toronto beat the Devils last night but until that last period I thought there was no hope for the Leafs. I think the Devils got this one

BK - This one is a toss up for me. Both teams lost last night, and both are struggling. I think at the end of the day, I gotta give the edge to the Devils with as bad as the Bolts are on the road.

Jess - The Devils are coming off a really tough loss at home. I think they bounce back tonight against a weaker defense. The Leafs are a much better team than the Bolts, so a Devils loss tonight would surprise me.

Game: Canadiens (14-4-4) @ Islanders (9-11-2)
Broadcast: RDS, MSG PLUS2
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Habs

BK - Les Islanders stinkez-vous. Les Habitants sont gagner ce soir, c'est tout!

Jess - Short and sweet, and I think BK said something about the Isles stinking and the Habs being good. I'm not sure the Islanders are as bad as their record, but I know the Canadiens are a strong team either on the road or at home. It may be more of a battle than anticipated by most, but I'm pretty sure the Habs've got this.

Game: Bruins (14-3-2) @ Capitals (8-11-1)
Broadcast: NESN, CSN-DC
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - I really like Washington. I just don't think they can take the Bruins tonight

BK - I gotta take Boston here. The Caps are playing slightly better, but the Bruins are one of the best road teams in hockey. Caps will keep it close, but Boston ultimately finds a way to win.

Jess - I'm still not convinced the Caps are as bad as their record. I agree, Bryan, I think they make this a game. They may even take it into overtime, but I feel like the Bruins will pull it off.

Game: Sabres (9-12-2) @ Hurricanes (12-8-1)
Broadcast: MSG-B, FS-CR
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - The Canes are on a roll. I just can't go against them either.

BK - Cam Ward is now out for up to 2 months? That's gonna hurt the Canes, but not enough to lose to a disjointed Sabres team. Canes win this one.

Jess - The Hurricanes are a good team, but Ward has been strong in net. I don't know who's playing tonight, but Ellis is no Cam Ward, and I'm not familiar with Peters. No matter though - they're playing the Sabres. Canes win.

Game: Oilers (8-9-4) @ Blue Jackets (6-12-4)
Broadcast: SNET-W, FS-O
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - While the Oilers have an overall better record, Columbus is improving. I am going out on a limb and taking Columbus for this one

BK - ...woof.

Jess - Like the Caps, I'm not convinced the Blue Jackets are playing their best hockey. I'm pretty sure they're better than this. Maybe I'm just an eternal optimist. I'm taking Columbus tonight too.

7:30pm
Blog Photo - Thursday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 3/5
Game: Flyers (11-11-1) @ Rangers (10-8-2)
Broadcast: TSN2, NBCSN, CSN-PH, MSG
Bet QBucks on this game
Picks:
Debi - Just think the Flyers will prevail

BK - I said it before, and I'm gonna say it again, there ain't no way, NO WAY I will ever pick the Flyers! I'm taking the Rangers for the win in front of the MSG crowd.

Jess - If the Flyers were at home I would be tempted to pick them in this game. New York is trying to put a little streak together though, and they're looking a lot better on offense. This should be a helluva game, and it's a good one to be nationally televised. Kudos, NHL, on this one. Flyers will put up a fight and this could come down to the wire, but my money's on the Rangers tonight.

Game: Jets (10-10-1) @ Panthers (6-11-5)
Broadcast: TSN-JETS, FS-F
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Look at those Jets! I keep saying how impressed I am but I can't help it. I think they will simply destroy the Panthers! Oh alright it won't be that bad but I still think they will win

BK - Jose Theodore is also out possibly 6-8 weeks. The Panthers are a mess and a half. I'm gonna go with the Jets to get a win on the road

Jess - All these weeks and I still have yet to actually see either of these teams play. I'm taking an educated guess and going with the road team in this game only because of the records, and I hear the Jets are on a hot streak.

Game: Avalanche (8-8-4) @ Red Wings (10-8-4)
Broadcast: ALT, FS-D
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Think the Avs might want this one more. They really want too be up in the standings and they need to get past Detroit to do that. It could go either way so I'm set on the Avalanche

BK - I want to pick the Avs for the upset, but they're just too out of sync to have any confidence in them right now. Those damn Wings will win and keep themselves in the playoff hunt, bastages.

Jess - Remember when these Avs/Wings games guaranteed grit and brawls and outstanding goaltending? Remember the goalie fights with these two teams? Haha! Good times. I miss this rivalry. I digress...I know Detroit is stronger and the Avs have some problems but I'm ignoring my head and going with my heart here. Avs.

8:30pm
Game: Wild (11-8-2) @ Blackhawks (19-0-3)
Broadcast: FS-N, FS-WI, CSN-CH
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Well let me see. The Wild are playing so..... Yeah who am I kidding. I can't go against Chicago. Not in this matchup anyway

BK - Well they proved all 3 of us wrong and found a way to win in Detroit on Sunday. The Wild did give them their first loss albeit in a shootout. I don't think they have what it takes to beat the Hawks in regulation though. Hawks win and keep the streak alive.

Jess - You know what's going to be funny is that when Chicago finally loses, it's going to be to a team nobody saw coming. I don't think it'll be tonight though. Blackhawks get their 20th regulation win.

10:00pm
Game: Sharks (10-6-4) @ Canucks (11-6-4)
Broadcast: CNS-CA, SNET-P
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Do you really need to ask??

BK - I don't really know what to think of the Sharks anymore unless they're at home. I know Debi will never pick the Canucks, but I just feel they're better than San Jose. This could be a close game, but Vancouver will wind up on top at the end of the night.

Jess - It's funny how all three of us have our "no-way-no-how" teams, regardless of their matchup. I honestly have no love lost for either of these teams but I don't hate them either. San Jose is still struggling, and the Canucks are pretty solid. And they're at home. Sorry Debi, but I have to pick them in this one.

10:30pm
Game: Blues (11-8-2) @ Kings (11-7-2)
Broadcast: FS-MW, FS-W
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - This one is a really close match but I have to go with the Kings. I just think they have their shizzle together a little more

BK - The Kings were great last night once they finally got a shot on goal. The Blues are a better team than the Preds IMO, but the Kings have their number. Even though the Blues have the extra day of rest, the Kings will continue to beat them like red-headed stepchildren.

Jess - Kings are hot. For the Ducks' sake I wish they would simmer down, but I have a feeling they're just getting started. The Blues will give them a good game, but they'll win this one at Staples tonight.

Let's kick off our Tuesday with some Goalie Godliness!

weird watching an NHL team play like that,..The scores are low and it would seem hard actually very hard to do what they seem to be doing.... at some point they will begin to rest for the playoffs...

Switched to the Kings/Blues game. Heh. Shattenkirk.

Hmm this Chicago game isn't as thrilling as I was hoping, for some reason.

I am extremely happy to be wrong tonight!!

Stop the press, Ryan Whitney has one of the goals for the Oilers.  4 years and I still don't miss him.

I give Columbus and Edmonton the old Eric "woof" designation, and go figure that's the barn burner of the night, 3-2 Oilers and they've JUST started the 2nd period.indecision

Hey, the Caps have won 6 of 9 since the Pittsburgh debacle, and 3 of their last 4 (the exception being the Philly/Milbury the troll debacle). So they are sort of playing better.

Now to see if they'll be 2 or more goals behind by the time Jeopardy ends, which is my test on whether to bothering turning it on.

You may not want to turn it on, it's 3-0 Bruins after 1 period.

Nope. Down 3-0. Another debacle. *Bleep* this team.

Wow, Brad Marchand scores the first goal in DC on a penalty shot shorthanded!

I should add the "stinkez-vous" was more Pepe le Pew style French.blush

Aww boo, there's no Habs broadcast tonight. I love it when they have a Montreal broadcast and it's in French. I don't know what they're saying, but it's an added fun element when watching a Habs game.

3/5/13   |   kramer   |   11003 respect

Presenting BK's French lesson of the day:  I said "the Islanders stink.  The Habs are going to win tonight, that's all."

The more you know...
