Tuesday Night Hockey Open Game Thread

New York vs Boston isn't just a great baseball rivalry [NHL Live Thread]

2/12/13 in NHL   |   Jess   |   34602 respect

Welcome to our first installment of FanIQ's version of a pregame show! Joining me as the regular hosts of these threads will be Bryan (kramer - or as I like to call him, BK), and Debi (JrCanuckFan). You will be seeing all three of us either separately or together throughout the remainder of the NHL season. Welcome, Debi and Bryan!

About your hosts: If you're new to the site or don't know Debi, make no mistake - she's no Vancouver Canucks fan. She is a Canuck though - and a fan of the Calgary Flames. BK is a Pittsburgh Penguins fan and I'm a fan of the Anaheim Ducks.

The NHL scheduling is making me look forward to Tuesdays. Another 10 games tonight, with loads of great hockey to watch. Below is the schedule, including channel broadcasts. As always, all times are eastern:

7:00pm
Game: Hurricanes (6-4-1) @ Devils (8-1-3)
Broadcast: FS-CR, MSG Plus
BK's Pick: You would make me pick this one by myself, dammit Jess! The Canes are playing great on this road trip, but even though it pains me, the Devils are just too good, and that regulation loss against the Pens is looking like a fluke more and more every day,
NJ wins this one on home ice.

7:30pm (Spotlight game of the night)
Game: Rangers (6-5-0) @ Bruins 8-1-1)
Broadcast: NBCSN, MSG, NESN
Jess's Pick: The Bruins are on fire this year again, but I can't pick against New York. Call me a sucker.
BK's Pick:First team to score a PP goal wins...umm,
Bruins.

7:30pm
Game: Sabers (5-7-1) @ Senators (6-4-2)
Broadcast: MSG-B, SNET-E
BK's Pick: Sabres are too inconsistent, Sens win.

7:30pm
Game: Habs (6-4-1) @ Lightning (6-5-0)
Broadcast: RDS, TSN, SUN
BK's Pick: The Bolts are at home where they're damn near perfect, Lightning win this one.

7:30pm
Game: Capitals (3-8-1) @ Panthers (4-6-1)
Broadcast: CSN-DC, FSN-F
Jess's Pick: With these two dumpster fires, (sorry gearhead), I see a great game of unintentional hilarity. Either that or it will be the most exciting game of the night. Caps win.
BK's Pick: Both teams currently suck, and the Caps have yet to win on the road...that changes tonight.  Caps win.

8:00pm
Game: Flyers (5-7-1) @ Jets (5-5-1)
Broadcast: CSN-PH, TSN-JETS
BK's Pick: The Flyers are pretty good at home, but terrible on the road.  Watch them win because I hate them.  That said, I'm still picking the Jets.

8:00pm
Game: Sharks (7-3-2) @ Predators (5-3-4)
Broadcast: CSN-CA, FSN-TN
Jess's Pick: Both of these teams lost their last game, and will be looking to bounce back tonight. While the Sharks are the better team, I think that the Predators get the win.
BK's Pick: The Sharks just los to COLUMBUS last night...badly!  Preds win this one.

8:30pm
Game: Ducks (8-2-1) @ Blackhawks (10-0-2)
Broadcast: PRIME, CSN-CH
BK's Pick: This is going to be the game of the night!  Both of these teams are playing incredible hockey to start the season!  Chicago has to lose in regulation sometime, and this is only their third home game of the year...will they be flat coming home?  Jess, if I pick Chicago to keep it going, will reverse psychology apply for your Ducks, leading to the end of the Hawks' regulation perfection?  I hope it does, so I'm going with the Hawks and hoping I'm wrong!
Jess's Fan Notes: I hope so! I'm scared to death for this game, but I'm excited. The Blackhawks are obviously an amazing team, but I can only hope they're due for an off game. The Ducks snapped the Sharks regulation win streak...

9:30pm
Game: Stars (6-5-1) @ Oilers (5-4-3)
Broadcast: FS-SW, SNET-W
BK's Pick: Both teams are treading water, but I still don't have enough confidence in Edmonton, Stars win on the road.

10:00pm
Game: Wild (6-5-1) @ Canucks (7-2-2)
Broadcast: TSN, FS-N, FS-WI
Jess's Pick: What is going on in Vancouver? I never know from one day to the next who their "starting" goalie is. Yes, we know backups get ice time regularly but with the Canucks, have they really named a starter or a backup? Anyway, regardless of who's in net, I think that Vancouver's Sedin Twins and their consistent offense take this win at home over the Wild and their $$ twins.
BK's Pick: Yes the Canucks have goaltending issues.  However, Minnesota stinketh on the road, and the Canucks are 7-2-2.  I think they have their act together.  Vancouver wins the night cap.

And we can't forget the kickoff (or is it faceoff?) video from our friends at NHL.com! Let's look at some of the best from last night:

We hope you enjoy the new format. Grab a seat and the remote, pick your game, and Q it up here for some Tuesday Night Hockey on FanIQ!

Sorry I missed this guys!  Worked a 9 hour shift and got home way too late to contribute.  Glad to see the Ducks were victorious over the Blackhawks, and I caught the last bit of the Habs vs the Lightning.  After they managed to tie it up, I honestly thought the momentum would carry them through for the win, but alas, it was not to be.

Preds won 1-0 in OT!

I always miss the end of Rangers games. wtf happened? Last I checked they were still 2-0

Judging by the time of the goals for the Bruins I'd say Claude Julien played Russian roulette and hit the jackpot.  The Bolts also fought back to earn a point and went to a shootout, but lost.

Holy schneikies I didn't think we had that. Chicago is still undefeated in regulation though...crazy!

Rangers had too many men on the ice AGAIN?!  Jess, has John Tortorella had a stroke yet over that?

2-1 Canes after two!

2/12/13   |   Jess   |   34602 respect

I have such a ridiculous goalie crush on Lundqvist.

2/12/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

The Canes tied it up on their PP!  Come on Carolina!

2/12/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Panthers...SCORE!  Florida has a 2-1 lead after Washington scored first on the PP.  Also, it's a 1-0 lead for the Rangers at The Gah-din.

2/12/13   |   Jess   |   34602 respect

Rangers score! Rask never stood a chance on that one

2/12/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Kovalchuk scores on the PP and the Devils take a 1-0 lead late in the first period.  This one's probably over already...

Luongo is starting tonight...apparently he's 8-0 over the Wild in Vancouver. That solidifies my pick, even though anything can happen.
