Turn back the clock day at the park

Today, I got to do something, that will live in my memory, for a long time.

A long time.

I went to the park, to spend some of the wonderful weather outside, and got into a group that was playing football.

Now, mind you, I'm not exactly Dan Marino in stature.

More like a late career Refrigerator Perry, out in the middle.

However, I still had the hands, and still had the uppe body to block with.

So, me, and 5 other guys got together, and took on 5 others, who were fresh off the basketball court.

My first major play, was in keeping our QB from being pressured. Simple, I kept about 350 lbs of size, between me, and their nose tackle. Not a hard job, mostly going east to west, keeping them away, while the QB would lob it deep.

Then, we'd switch out. Then my task, was calling for keeping their QB honest. Granted, I was about 10 years older than he was, trying to keep him in my line of sight, and as well, forcing him to throw it a little longer than needed, thanks to some long arms. Ok, Wingspan, big time.

But my two moments, that sunk in, came in, one on offense, one on defense.

First, we considered a short route, to get me into the open, and spread the field. If they couldn't go deep, they'd go to me, on short range. And 3 different times, it was paydirt, no dropped passes, no incompletions.

But the defensive play, was pure fun.

They had a 4th and 2, and wanted to do a run play, which was suspected. I whispered off to the guys, watch for the pass out, watch for the side man....and be ready if someone goes for a bomb.

The ball was hiked, the pitched it underhand, and then the guy tried to toss it back over towards my end, to a speedster.

He never touched the ball, when I spiked it down, killing their drive.

It felt good, to be back out in the field, after all these years.

I can't wait to try it again.

For now, I'll go soak off, and try to lose about 50 lbs.
