Turning Japanese

6/12/14 in MLB   |   pigskinfan   |   65 respect

I haven't read or heard anything about it yet, but I'm pretty sure last night marked the first time in major league history that 2 Japanese pitchers tossed complete games on the same night.  Actually, I could care less about Darvish's performance.  He wasn't on my radar last night, but Tanaka was stellar again to complete my daily double for yesterday.  Kunichiwa?

THE SHOW  (2-2 yesterday and 11-7 so far for the week)

BUTTA  (2-0 last night and 4-1 so far for the week)
GIANTS (HUDSON -150) over Nationals (Treinen) - It's been said that the hardest thing to do in all of sports is to hit a moving sphere squarely with a cylinder.  I don't doubt that's true, but sweeping a 4-game series on the road has to rank right up there too.  That's where the Nats are today, but they've got a real task on their hands in facing Huddy who is 16-5 lifetime against Washington..  Treinen hasn't had a whole lot of success with wins and losses, but he's kept the Nats in every game he's started.  Hudson wasn't good in his last start, but the Gigantes still managed to cobble together enough runs to win that game.  Huddy is also 15-0 at home over the last 2 seasons, and in his career, he's 99-52 in day games and 71-27 at home when his team is coming off a loss.  The Nats have dominated the G-Men in the first 3 games of this series, and they're the hottest team in the game right now.  But I can't resist either the numbers or the situation.

1.  Dodgers (Greinke-130) over REDS (SIMON) - I don't know what it is, but the Dodgers play a whole lot better on the road than do at home.  Planet Zack has scuffled a bit in his last couple of starts, but he is 5-1 lifetime against the Reds.  Before you make the move on him though, you should know that the Reds are 10-3 this year in Simon's starts, and in his career, Greinke is 55-82 in all road starts and 12-23 as a road favorite.
2.  PIRATES (VOLQUEZ -120) over Cubs (Samardzija) - If the Bucs are going to make a move in their division, they're going to need Volquez to step up.  This might be a real good spot for him to do just that.  He's 5-0 lifetime against the Cubs.
3.  RED SOX (LESTER -160) over Indians (Tomlin) - The Sox aren't hitting, and Lester has been erratic all season long.  He is 6-1 lifetime against the Tribe though, and Cleveland has really struggled on the road so far this season.
4.  D-Backs (Miley -115) over ASTROS (FELDMAN) - I really like where the 'Stros are right now, but Feldman doesn't look like a good answer for today.  He's getting blown up on a regular basis and is 0-2 lifetime against the Snakes.  With Miley at 2-0 in his career against Houston, this feels like a split of the home and home interleague 4-gamer.

RUN LINES  (4-11 ATS/6-9 SU/8-7 TOTALS yesterday and 34-21/30-22/31-24 so far for the week)
Cubs Jays (+1 1/2, U8 1/2)
Padres (+1 1/2, U8) Indians
Brewers Tigers
METS (+1 1/2, U7) WHITE SOX (-1 1/2, U7)
Dodgers (-1 1/2, U7 1/2) Yankees (+1 1/2, U7)
ROCKIES (+1 1/2, U10)
Nationals (+1 1/2, U7) D-Backs
GIANTS ASTROS (+1 1/2, O8 1/2)
---As you can see, I'm showing a tie In the D-Backs/ASTROS matchup tonight.
---Maybe getting away from home and into another hitter's paradise will help the Jays?
---How far will his manager go with Chris Sale tonight?  My guess is that If he's got the lead, it won't be one hitter too many like it was in Sale's last start.

BROOMOLOGY  (1-0 ATS & SU last night and 2-3 & 3-2 so far for the week)

Road Dogs  (2-2 ATS & SU so far for the week)
Tigers (+1 1/2) at WHITE SOX
Padres (+1 1/2) at PHILLIES

Home Favorites  (no situations so far this week)
MARINERS (-1 1/2) over Yankees
GIANTS (-1 1/2) over Nationals

THE NBA  (0-2 ATS, SU & TOTALS so far for the week)
HEAT (-5, U197) over Spurs - After being humiliated and embarrassed at home in Game 3, you have to figure the Heat will come out with their best game of the series so far tonight.  The problem for me is the spread is too much for me to lay, and the take back on the money line (-240) isn't enough for me to want to get involved with what I feel is the inferior team in this matchup.  HEAT 102, Spurs 92

Another rainy day here in God's Country.  The grounds around The Estate are once again going to be like a jungle when things finally dry out enough for me to go to work on them.  UGH!  At least while I am waiting for that to happen, I've got a full day of baseball to look forward to.  Have a great Thursday, and if you're starting your weekend a bit early, be careful out there tonight.  I'll talk to  you tomorrow.
