You've been hearing an awful lot about Tyson Gay's prowess in the 100-meter dash, after all he has covered that ground faster than anyone in history. That said, it's not even his best event. Gay is also the 200-meter reigning World Champion and considers it his best race and best opportunity for gold in Beijing.

Sadly, he's not going to have that opportunity next month.

40-meters into the 200-meter dash final at the U.S. Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon, Gay came up limp, suffering a severe cramp is his left hamstring. Despite him being the best in the world, his DNF will leave Gay to only compete in the 100 and 4x100 in the 2008 Olympic Games.

It's one of the many reasons I enjoy track - you could have ran the fastest time ever a month ago, but if you're not one of the first three finalists when it matters most, sorry. You can expect the U.S. to reconsider it's Olympic qualifying format, but I don't suspect any changes.

We all would have been happy to see Gay win gold in both the 100 and 200, headline writers certainly would have been joyous, but for now we'll just remain content that we have a Gay vs Bolt showdown looming.
