One of my favorite college blogs is Bruins Nation. It's entertaining and informative even for a Big Ten fan across the country. So I mean this as no disrespect, merely as a source for amusement (sorry). I've lived through some painful losses myself and I can't say I responded well. Brian at MGoBlog gets top billing for his two week meltdown, but these guys at BN aren't far behind.Moments after the Bruins loss: "If Dorrell has any sense of dignity and self respect left he would resign and let this charade end this week." Ironically, BN had commemorated one of the Bruins most stunning victories earlier in the week. UCLA's 66-3 lambasting of Texas in Austin. This loss doesn't have as much far reaching effect, but still these two games on polar opposites of the equation happened 10 weeks apart to the day.
Then it really got fun, the Athletic Director Dan Guerrero was called out Sunday morning:"Guerrero's legacy will certainly be remembered for bringing in Howland and resurrecting our basketball program, for being a part of our "1st to 100" championships, and perhaps forwarding our baseball program, but ultimately, his legacy can and will be firmly placed by bringing in a head football coach who can consistently produce a winner, bring us back to Pac-10 supremacy, and take us to BCS bowl games.Karl said it himself: "If I don't do my job, I'm going to get fired." Dan Guerrero, what are you thinking? What is your next move?We are all watching."
Which was naturally followed by a list of potential new head coaches. I don't think Dorrell will be fired this season (there's still a conference to be had), but if I were to play this game I'd agree with the BN sentiment. Bronco Mendenhall is one of the most overlooked coaching prospects.
Last, but not least, the Karl Dorrell Farewell Season Drinking Game. " * One of our tailbacks slams into a clusterf_ck of linemen for no gain." We all feel your pain on this, few plays are more aggravating.
Keep your heads up, sons of Westwood.
