There are plenty of ways to fire up your college football team that has been getting its butt kicked by one opponent for years on end. But seriously, this is NOT the way to do that. This UCLA ad on your right - directly calling out USC - appeared in yesterday's LA Times.
Aside from UCLA wandering over to the LA Coliseum and planting its flag into the ground at mid-field, there isn't much more you can do to piss off this decade's greatest college football powerhouse.
That said though, this probably barely even registers on USC's radar. I'm sure Pete Carroll will pull this newspaper out before the USC/UCLA game and say, "Hey, kick some butt", but that's about it.
While I like the moves UCLA has made of late, bringing in Rick Neuheisel and managing to snag former USC offensive coordinator Norm Chow (who could be very useful against the Trojans), they don't have anywhere near the personel to compete with USC at this point in time.
In other words, the monopoly isn't over yet.
Some day, it may be. But when most preseason polls have you sitting at around #30, it's not usually a good idea to openly challenge a team that's ranked either #1 or #2 in the country depending on the poll.
It's best to do what Applachian St. did last season. Speak softly and carry a big stick. Plus you don't look like complete idiots should you lose.
