UCLA Starts Off the Neuheisel Era With a Bang, Beats Tennessee 27-24 In OT
UCLA 3rd String QB Kevin Craft Shakes Off 4 Early INT's, Beats Tennessee in OT
UCLA QB Kevin Craft had a terrible first half, throwing 4 INT's, one of which was returned for a Tennessee TD. But he stepped it up in the 2nd half, finishing with 25 completions, as the Bruins beat the Volunteers 27-24 in Rick Neuheisel's coaching debut at his alma mater.

Craft's early struggles put the Bruins in a tough position early, but they were able to stay in the game, never trailing by more than 7, despite the turnovers.

This is the first loss for a ranked SEC team, and is a great sign for Neuheisel and the UCLA Bruins, who showed that their defense is strong enough to compete with anyone, and their young QB is able to shake off mistakes and lead the team to victory.

The win will likely propel UCLA into a top-25 ranking, as they pass their first big test of the year. They play #16 Brigham Young next week, and hope to take the Cougars down a notch, and ruin their bid to become only the 4th non-BCS conference team to play in a BCS bowl. Tennessee looks to rebound next week against at home UAB, and Phil Fullmer will certainly have his team ready to play, after the disappointment this week.

Can Neuheisel and the Bruins challenge USC this year for Pac-10 supremacy? Probably not, but that day will surely come, and it will come soon.

Great game!  Both teams played lousy for 90% of the game - as a Tennessee fan, damn guys - PLEASE find yourselves a quarterback!  As a UCLA fan - what a comeback and a great way to start the Neuheisel era.

Kevin Craft is the son of Tom Craft who was the greatest Jr. College Football Coach of All-Time. He won 2 National Championships at the JUCO level and 7 of his QBs were JUCO All-Americans. Tom coached at Palomar College in San Marcos, California. I grew up in San Marcos, so it's nice to see Kevin get some playing time at a major Div-1 College. I hope he has a great year.

If the 2nd half edition of Kevin Craft can start showing up for an entire game, UCLA might be all set for now. But man... that first half... ouch.

Maybe it was just nerves, because he was pretty solid in that second half.

I wonder if the NCAA will investigate Neuheisel since they stole that game last night.

A great win for UCLA. That is the kind of effort that has been missing in Westwood for years. Also last night was a night where coaching won them the game. A patch workline, injuries and a QB throwing 4 picks (Kevin I am not a QB but when a team is running Cover-2 throwing those flag routes are going to get picked.) still found a way to be the Vols. The Dewayne Walkers defense made plays when they had to. Frank Ganz Jr. got the Bruins the big punt block run back for a TD. Lastly Norm Chow. Norm calmed Craft down and showed faith in having keep throwing, got him into a rhythm.

Even as Bruin fan I was worried that the Bruins were going to get rolled, however no one told the Bruins.

Kevin Craft you still have a ways to go, but I am alright with you running the show.

Lastly, the people most upset with the Bruins win is San Diego State who had Craft, but fired his dad, then lost him and then they lost to Cal Poly.

Craft is the happiest guy in SOCAL, after that disgrace of a program, SDSU loses to Cal Poly for the 2nd time in 3 years I am happy Craft did recover from a bad 1st half. Plyaer of the game for the Bruins is Daniel Lincoln for the Vols, honorable mention is the stellar officiating by the Pac-10, again
