-Herman injured his left knee and could not continue.
-I want to prepare everyone for a night of strange scoring. This happens a lot in areas that don't see many MMA events. We've already had two split decisions with random 30-27 scores. There was also a 29-28 score in the Russow/McCully fight, despite the fact Russow thoroughly dominated it. I had him winning 30-26. Just be ready for some weirdness.
Brandon Vera vs Krzysztof Soszynski
Round 1
Sos comes right at him. Vera answers with a body kick. Solid leg kick by Vera. Another leg kick. The kicks have made Sos cautious. Goldberg just compared Vera to Anderson Silva. I guess if you take away all of Silva's dominance, Vera and him are sorta alike. Okay, not at all. Goldberg is an idiot and it took him less than fifteen minutes to prove it. Tie-up on the cage. Not much happening. Sos lands a left, but eats a leg kick. Knee to the stomach by Sos. Head kick blocked by Sos. Vera lands a leg kick. Vera ties him up and pushes Sos into the cage. Knees to the stomach of Sos. Sos shoots, but can't take him down. RNN Scores it 10-9 Vera.
Round 2
Sos lands a left. Vera comes back with a left of his own. Straight right connects for Sos. Sos presses Vera into the cage. Both trading light knees to the body. Fans getting restless. Back to the center. Sos tries for another takedown and it goes nowhere. Jab lands for Sos. More grappling near the cage. Sos finally gets the takedown. Vera moves back to one knee then gets back up. No damage taken while on the ground. RNN Scores it 10-9 Vera.
Round 3
Vera lands a right counter. Leg kick left to the head combo by Vera. Sos lands a short left. Sos going for another takedown that doesn't work. Clinch now and both throwing knees. Vera takes him down. Vera working from the side and lands a few punches to the head. Sos gets back up. Vera hits him in the balls. Short stoppage and we're back to the center. Right connects for Vera. Uppercut by Vera. Vera moving around and keeping his distance. RNN Scores it 10-9 Vera.
Vera Wins by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
-Typical boring Vera fight. He sat outside and kicked him in the legs.
Demian Maia vs Nate MarquardtRound 1
Maia dives in and gets blasted with a right. He goes down hard. He's done. 21 seconds.
Marquardt Wins by 1st Round TKO
-Maia sorta threw his left leg out to attempt a kick and Marquardt nailed him with a right. Maia went down and that was it. Afterwards, Marquardt said, "If you want someone who's gonna kick Anderson Silva's butt, I'm the guy." Silva was cageside and looked amused.
Chris Leben vs Jake Rosholt
-3 and a half inch reach advantage for Rosholt.
Round 1Leg kick by Rosholt. Leben loading up the lefthand, as usual. A "Leben" chant breaks out. Another leg kick for Rosholt. Rosholt charges in with a knee, but Leben takes him down. Leben on top working from full guard. Body shots by Leben. Rosholt controlling his head and not allowing Leben to posture up. Rosholt kicks him off and gets back to his feet. Leg kick by Leben. Rosholt responds with a leg kick of his own. Rosholt has a body lock and takes Leben down. Leben takes a few strikes, while down before getting up. Leben charges forward with some wild combos to close out the round. RNN Scores it 10-9 Rosholt.
Round 2
Rosholt connects with a left. Rosholt tries a kick that misses. Leben counters the kick with a left that drops Rosholt. Leben on top throwing strikes to the head. Body shots by Leben. Leben comes over the top with a left that connects to the head. Referee stands them up. They trade leg kicks. Leben lands a solid left. Rosholt comes forward and takes Leben down. Rosholt lands a few strikes to the head. Leben gets back up. Leben closes the round with a flurry. RNN Scores it 10-9 Leben.
Round 3
Rosholt takes him down. Elbows from the top. He's into mount and landing solid punches. He's got an arm triangle. Leben appears to tap for a second, but it's unclear. A few more seconds go by and Leben is out cold.
