UFC 169 Grades: Barao and Aldo
Renan Baroa: A+: The stoppage may have been a bit early, but Baroa was clearly outclassing the always-game Faber early in the first round. The bantamweight champion is without a doubt one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world and may have just moved into the top with after Saturday night. The only thing left is for the long-awaited matchup against Dominick Cruz to finally happen.
Jose Aldo: A: The featherweight champion fought a more measured fight than his Brazilian counterpart, in the co-main event of the evening, but looked just as fantastic as Barao. Aldo had moments of absolute brilliance and looked like the most terrifying man in the sports for small burst.
Alistair Overeem: B+: Overeem get an A just on his walkout dance alone. The former Strikeforce champion was devastating, smart, and fought an all-round great fight against Frank Mir. Sure, Overeem could have finished Mir, but why risk gassing and losing a fight in the same way three times in a row? Overeem will probably come out much more aggressive in his next matchup—Junior dos Santos anyone?
Frank Mir: F: It may be time for the former UFC champion to step away from the octagon. Mir was simply destroyed from the opening minute of the fight and did not production one second of meaningful offense against the Dutchman—did Mir even land one punch? By the middle of the second round the fight was more sad than entertaining. Mir is one of the greatest UFC fighters of all-time and no one wants to see the man perform as a shell of his former self.
