16 years ago, Art Davie came up with this crazy idea where a bunch of different style martial artists would fight each other, each using their own style. Now, we know it as MMA, and he's one of the founding fathers of the organization now known world-wide as the UFC.
Now, Davie is bringing something a little different to the table, quite literally. XARM is a combination of arm wrestling and MMA, but in a much smaller forum than a ring or an Octagonal cage. Now, the men have to fight at a table.
I am not making this up.
Billed by Davie as "a combat sport for the digital age," XARM is described as a hybrid sport combining kick boxing, jiu-jitsu and arm wrestling. It's played at a table, 28 by 16 inches, where the players are strapped to the table, and one of their hands is duct taped to their opponent's hand. The fights consist of three rounds, 3 minutes each, where the fighters try to beat the other into submission. You can read the full rules here... it's quite entertaining. You can watch more fights on RipeTV.
The big heavyweight championship is on December 17, but there are a few more preliminary fights before that can happen. You can be sure that we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for more on this sport. As insane as it might be, I think I like it.
