UPSET ALERT: Federer Downed by Stakhovsky
We quite literally just watched Rafa Nadal fall in the first round of Wimbledon, however, today we were treated to another classic victory against a top talent in Tennis in Roger Federer, by Sergiy Stahovsky.
On the offensive for quite a bit of time throughout the match, Sergiy slammed home some impressive backhand winners in crucial moments of the match, removing Federer from competition earlier than he had planned.
Leading the match heading to the 4th set 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 - Stahovsky and Federer went to a tie break where Sergiy continued his dominance taking a 5-2 lead before holding off Roger's resilience to close it out 7-5.
Federer had been on quite a remarkable streak of 36 consecutive major quarter finals appearances until today but this classic performance by the Ukranian journeyman will certainly be ingrained as one of his finest moments of his career. On such a stage as Wimbledon, Sergiy's performance will be remembered for quite some time.
