USA Freestyle Skiing Silver Medalist Gus Kenworthy Saving Strays in Sochi

The Philanthropy Files: Olympian Freestyle Skier saving Sochi strays

As you may or may not have heard right about the time the Opening Ceremonies were about to kick off in Sochi, Olympic officials were quite dishonest about what was actually going on with the stray dogs and how they were cleaning up the city for the Olympics. Rather than using some of the Olympic funds on shelters for the dogs, they hired a pest control company to kill them.

Gus Kenworthy, an American Freestyle Skier who won the Silver last night in Slopestyle, has teamed up with one of the richest men in Russia, Oleg Deripaska, to save as many as he can.

Deripaska has built shelters near Sochi, and has so far saved around 140 dogs.

Kenworthy has saved five of his own (a mother and four puppies.) A much smaller scale, to be sure, but he has no personally built shelter where they can be moved. He plans to have them vaccinated, fly them home in kennels, keep one, and find homes for the rest.

I don't know where this pic was ever officially posted, but I snagged it from his official twitter page. where he tweeted it with the caption, "puppy love is real to puppies". D'awwww!
