A week ago, I wrote that the USC Trojans were the only thing standing between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and an absurdly undeserving BCS title game appearance. After Saturday's ridiculous set of circumstances, in which Kansas State and Oregon both suffered losses, Notre Dame now sits atop the rankings as the only remaining undefeated FBS team.
In another stroke of luck for Notre Dame, USC quarterback Matt Barkley injured his shoulder this week against UCLA, and will miss the game against the Irish next week.
The USC starter will be redshirt freshman Max Wittek, who has never started a game before for USC. He has played in 3 games, going 8 for 9 overall with 95 yards and one touchdown.
Barring a miraculous performance by Wittek, the Irish are on the fast track to the BCS Championship game. Most likely, they'll play the SEC champions, and they'll probably get blown out by 30.
Enjoy that, Notre Dame.

I would love to see the clusterf*** that would ensue if Notre Dame were to lose on Saturday night.

Correction: Ohio State is also undefeated. But they don't really count, since they're not bowl eligible.

Not to mention the officiating that has allowed them to remain undefeated....
