Mandatory Credit: Winslow Townson-USA TODAY SportsThe United States fought hard, but couldn't overcome the odds and beat Germany in the finale of group play.

Still, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal, they'll move on to the next round, finishing 2nd in their group and looking forward to the top seed from Group H.

Most likely, the Americans will face Belgium in their first elimination game, unless the Belgians somehow lose to South Korea (as I write this, they're leading 1-0 in the 80th minute).

This is great for the United States, who was thought to be doomed after drawing a spot in the 'Group of Death' and written off by many before the tournament even began.

However, after finishing the round-robin group stage at 1-1-1, they earned the 2nd spot by beating Portugal in overall goal differential to earn a place in the knockout stage.

Great job by Jurgen Klinsmann and the United States to beat the odds and move on to the next round. Best of luck against Belgium, it should be a great match!

The boys watched and at first were sad the US lost. Then when the guy came on and said something about another team losing and the US was going to play again they got very excited/happy. They are fans of the sport, so that means I get to take them to some local games.
