After optimistically tweeting that he would hopefully be out 1.5 weeks, Metta World Peace will actually be out 6 weeks. Upon undergoing surgery on Wednesday, the small forward for the Los Angeles Lakers will actually be out much longer for rehab.
This comes as a big blow to the injury laden Lakers who are holding the 8th seed by the skin of their teeth.
"It's been a trying year for a lot of reasons and not just injuries, which everybody has to go through," Coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We just can't seem to get any traction. But, besides that, nobody is feeling sorry for us and we got plenty [of talent remaining] to win anyway so let's just do what we're supposed to do and go out and play as hard as we can and see what happens."
With the Utah Jazz and the surging Dallas Mavericks just 1.5 games behind the 8th seed, the Los Angeles Lakers have reason to worry. They’ve lost three in a row and now they’ve lost their best perimeter player.
The teams that are in and out of the playoffs are usually set this time of year, but this year’s playoff eams is anybody’s guess. It’s great for the game, great for the fans, but if you’re in Los Angeles, you probably have a little bit more to be worried about this time of year than normal.
