Usain Bolt Wins 100 Meter Dash Gold, Sets New World Record At 9.69 Seconds [Beijing 2008 Olympics]
Bolt Remains Fastest Man In The World, Can Keep His Name A Little While Longer

Spoiler Alert for those of you who think you'll go the whole day without finding out the winner of the 100m dash final. For whatever reason NBC plans to wait until this evening to show the semifinal and final sprints.

The fastest man in the world final lost some luster without Tyson Gay, who failed to qualify, but Usain Bolt still made it worth the hype.

Jamaica's Bolt broke his own mark, setting a new world record at 9.69 seconds despite celebrating throughout the final 20 meters. America's Walter Dix finished a surprising third, winning the bronze medal. Think Bobby Bowden could find a spot for him on the Florida State football team?

Without Gay in the 200m event as well, Bolt has a very good chance to pull off the double.

Here's footage of the Bolt's world record run, which should be taken down as quickly as Usain finished:

Thanks for the post...I'll pretend to be surprised. Nah, I'd rather know now rather than to be on time delay disappointment.

What happened to Powell?  For such a promising event, it almost seems disappointing, even if a world record was set.

well, have u ever ran the 100m dash in such a big event such as the olympics being the world record holder. he lowered the mark from 9.74 sec to 9.69 so the way i see it  usain bolt of jam is the fastest man in the world and powell was

I wasn't ripping on Bolt or anything, just saying that I was looking forward to seeing Bolt, Powell, and Gay battle it out.  Bolt deserves all the credit in the world for being so dominant, I was just hoping it would be close.

Seem's NBC did not think the 100 m men's final was compelling enough to break away live from the USA vs. Spain basketball game.  Talk about "Chinese-like" control of the media.  Whoever has a video of the race should just keep posting it on YouTube.  F-  NBC.

I bet if  an American had won it they would have, but  since it was someone from another country, its not that important as US Basketball.

Ahh the Olympics ......................... more "political"  than you think.

Nah, I don't think it's "political," NBC has to do what gets them the best ratings...

On a side note, let's not lose track of how amazing Bolt's run was.  INCREDIBLE!  Dude could have been around 9.5 if he hadn't let up.  I think I heard somewhere that a time like that would be the equivalent of 30 MPH!

So Usain Bolt theoretically could get a speeding ticket?  Ridiculous.

And he's only 21, he could dominate this race and the 200 for the at least the next 2 olympics.

However he does seem to be a little too cockey.

well look at the event he broke the world record at . maybe by the 2012 games he could lower the 100m dash record even lower. he might be cockey but he can back it up on the track. he still does have the 200m dash to go. it would be real nice to see him break the world record in the 200m before he goes home from this year's olympic games

if you watched the 100m dash final he was in it for a go part of the final. but if u saw the final results he finished 5th , so the way i see that is 5th in the world that is nothing to shake a stick . way to mr. powell and team jamica and all the athletes that compete in the games

well what do you think got them more rateing the bolt and the men running the 100m men's final or kobe, lebron, kris bosh those 3 plus the rest of team usa{nba} or the track event plus a certain usa track star didn't make the final {tyson gay} any question about that if tyson would have made the final 95% chance they maybe would have shown it because it would have been BOLT vs. POWELL vs. GAY

I think as fast as Bolt ran that he should have gotten Gold and Silver. It took me about half an hour to pick my jaw up from off the floor. I re-ran the race in slow mo and Bolt still broke the 10 second mark. This guy has been running the 100 for about a year. A YEAR!

What he did has to be equal to what Bob Beaman did in Mexico in 68.

Is there a bioengineer-type out there who can examine a slow-mo replay of Bolt's run and figure out his lowest potential time based on his speed before he started celebrating- could Bolt break 9 seconds? Is it physically possible?  Bet there will be a lot of tall sprinters recruited now to try to capitilize on Bolt's style and see if long strides are a better sprint model?

Will Bolt run in the 4x100m relay?

Has any anyone ever competed in the 100m, 200m, and 400m in an Olympics?
