The Dutchman has been in the form of his life and has already notched up 34 goals in all competitions and has found the back of the net 27 times in the Premier League leading his nearest competitor Rooney by 3 goals who is a further 3 goals ahead of Aguero. Not only this but van Persie who believes in leading by example has already produced some moments of sheer brilliance throughout this season and has managed to inspire Arsenal in some truly memorable comebacks; the games against Chelsea and Spurs come to mind. Some have labelled Arsenal as a one man team and van Persie as the sole reason for their resurgence which has seen them win the last 9 out of 10 Premier League games and cement their grip on the last Champions League spot.
In a report published in ESPN Soccernet PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor praised the Dutchman saying that van Persie truly deserved the nomination:
'He has been amazing. When you think of the players Arsene Wenger has brought to the club - he came from Feyenoord for £2.75 million I think and that is incredible really.
“When you think of Dennis Bergkamp, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Marco van Basten - he is in that mould of absolutely top-class strikers that Holland, quite phenomenally, manages to produce.
“You could pick half a dozen of his goals out for goal of the season. Arsenal were struggling for some time but he was a real talisman for them. He seems to have lifted the team and got them back believing in themselves again and looking to qualify for the Champions League, giving all the Arsenal fans some hope.”
Van Persie should win this award hands down and it would be such a great boost to the player who has been nothing short of phenomenal this season.
Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has also received a nomination for the PFA young player of the year award but I think that Aguero will win that award. Chamberlain, although a brilliant talent, has not done enough this season (due to Wenger exercising caution with him) to warrant that award. Aguero on the other hand is the third leading goal scorer in the Premier League this season and no matter how much you hate him, you just cannot deny that the boy has class.
