Vanderbilt coach James Franklin has announced that four members of the football team have been dismissed for their alleged involvement in a recent sex crime probe, according to Chris Huston of CBS Sports.Blog Photo - Vanderbilt Football: Four Commodores kicked off team amid sex crimes

In addition, the university has elected to suspend each player individually from campus until further investigation.

Elizabeth Latt of Vanderbilt News released a statement on behalf of Franklin and the football program saying that the four unidentified players were kicked off the team due to "violation of team rules."

“The well-being of our students is of paramount concern to us, and we will not tolerate any actions that threaten student safety and security,” said Beth Fortune, Vanderbilt vice chancellor for public affairs.

The Metropolitan Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit began an investigation on Wednesday following an incident that was alleged to have occurred at a Vanderbilt dorm room.

Vanderbilt finished 9-4 (5-3 SEC) last season and ended the season ranked as a Top-25 team for the first time since 1948.
