Venus Williams managed to defeat her sister Serena today at Wimbledon to pick up her fifth championship at the All England Club. It was admittedly an impressive performance by Venus who looked like she was going to get smoked early only when she went down 3-1 in the first set.

But she wound up rallying and won in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. This was the first time Venus had beaten Serena in a Grand Slam final since 2001, which seems like forever ago. Venus now has 7 Grand Slam titles to Serena's 8, and they're now dead even (8-8) in their careers against each other.

This fifth win at Wimbledon by Venus also cements her place in place in women's tennis history as this generation's best women's grass player. Only Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, and Steffi Graf have won more times at Wimbledon.

This tournament acted as a bit of a reminder that despite the fact that Venus (28) and Serena (26) are actually old by the WTA tour's standard, they're still still incredibly dominating when they put their minds to it. You'd be foolish to think this is either ones last Grand Slam Final.

The two will also be competing in the women's doubles final, which I kinda expect them to win.
