I'd say we're off to a pretty solid start in 2008 as far as championship games are concerned.
One of the best Super Bowls ever, complete with perhaps the most clutch play ever, has been followed by last night's NCAA Title game that you could describe in the same light.
Does that mean we should watch the women's title game tonight? Candace vs Candice is the new Larry vs Magic, don't you know.
It's never fun to watch a team choke away a game (unless they're coached by John Calipari), but do love the dramatic comeback. Memphis did their part, but it's more amazing in a game of this magnitude that the Jayhawks were able to pull off every play needed to keep the door ajar.
So where does this NCAA championship rank among those you've ever watched?
I have no doubt the 1982 and 1983 games were spectacular, but I was likely more amused with what I left in my diaper during that contest. Duke beating Kansas in '91 I remember as being very entertaining, as was Arizona over Kentucky in '97. 2000 remains my favorite for many obvious reasons, but aside from that last night was definitely the most entertaining NCAA Championship game I've ever watched.
Best moment of the tournament? Definitely have to go with Gus Johnson's call of Stephen Curry twisted reverse layup against Wisconsin. Ha-ha!
While *very, very sadly* I had class last night, I did manage to get home with about 5:00 left in the 2nd half. While I'm sure the first 35 minutes were great too, I loved watching.
I thought it was interesting that this was the first OT Championship Game since '97, and even then, I hardly recall anything from that game. Most recent memory, and those I sat down and watched intentively, this game is #1 without a question ('91 I leave out because I was about 1 1/2 years old at the time).
Best moment of the Tourney was just the all around heroics of Curry. Dude was Godly all tourney, big games over G'town and the Badgers just cemented how much of a stud he was throughout.
You are just too young a puppy to remember Loyola of Chicago's come-from-way behind win in overtime against two-time NCAA champ Cincinnati in 1963. And that was a game in which a run-and-gun team had to come back against a slow-ball team before there was a shot clock. Loyola averaged over 90 points a game that year.
