Alexander Ovechkin Wins NHL Superskills Dunk Contest
by CriticalFanatic

I suppose I should first inform you that the NHL held a skills competition last night and that apparently there's an All-Star Game today.

One of the most popular events was the Superskills contest, hockey's best attempt at a dunk contest. They even had Dominique Wilkins as a judge. Seriously, check the video.

The highlights are actually entertaining, but the two best 'moves' were failed attempts. They basically gave the award to a guy who missed his dunk. Unsurprisingly, Alexander Ovechkin was that winner.

This was amazing...some of the creativity from these guys was just unreal. I have the HD vids from NHL.com up in my blogs (I friggin love NHL.com's "NHL TV") if anyone wants to check it out as well.

Some downright disgusting moves from some of these guys.  They have to figure out a way to make the goalies less involved.  You don't put Dwight Howard in the paint for a dunk contest.  Nabokov coming out and meeting (who was it, St. Louis?) half way was a d** move.

I can't believe I'm talking about hockey.

I disagree.  Nabokov made a ballsy move.  He misses that poke, and he leaves a wide open net.  The offensive guys are trying to be creative.  I like the goaltenders being creative as well.

My favorite event is always the hardest shot.  But this breakaway with the extra points for creativity puts that event right up there.  It was cool.

The 3 on 3 young stars game...  All I can say is that game had more in common with basketball than hockey.  It was a greater joke than the ASG itself.

Quit being a homer. Were the goalies being scored? No? Then it was a crap move.  I realize they don't want the ego hit that comes with giving up a goal of any kind, so why are they in there to begin with?  Bring out Darren Pang or something.

Just because it was Nabokov who did it is just circumstance.

The breakaway was fun.  If the goaltenders were gone, it would have been dull dull dull.    Don't ask the goalies to not do what they normally do just because it is the all star game skills competition.

It was a ballsy move and he won.  Good for him.

You're just as dense as you were 6 months ago.  He won? He wasn't involved in the competition.  I can only hope they are friends and it was some kind of joke, but Nabokov isn't exactly a highly regarded goaltender by anybodies standards.  I didn't say no goalie, I simply asked for one that didn't have a "I have a small member - so watch this" agenda.

PS: I realize Nabokov is having a great year for the perennial post-season flameout Sharks.

Nice antagonizing post.

Nabokov won that match up because he didn't get scored on.

No sense it rebutting the rest of what you said.  It was just designed to get an emotional response out of me.  It failed.

Yes, Nabokov won.  Same as you won when you wittily remarked on that guys large head after he kicked over your sand castle and stole your girl.
