The Chicago Blackhawks desperately needed to win Game 4 against the Canucks, or they would fall behind 3-1 in their best of 7 series, a nearly insurmountable deficit.
The game went into overtime, and Andrew Ladd put in the game winner less than 3 minutes into the OT period. It's a new series now, and the Blackhawks will just need to steal one on the road to win the series.
The Canucks dominated play throughout.. They are the NJ Devils of the 00's. Van dominated neutral ice all night and Chicago could not get anything going for close to 56 minutes, but Chicago kept plugging away and got the win.

I wouldn't say the Canucks are the NJ Devils until they have a Stanley Cup or two and/or get past Detroit.
Vancouver didn't attempt anything resembling offense once they had the 1-0 lead. Chicago kept trying to break the trap with long passes that didn't work. Once time starting running out, the Blackhawks started pressing the issue and forced Vancouver into mistakes. They had a couple decent chances before getting the tying goal.
I think Vancouver's strategy needs to be turn on the jets and get up a couple goals before playing a tight trap. That's basically what they did in game 3. The Blackhawks need to dump and chase and get the Vancouver defense turned around and then pressure the net.
It should be interesting who gets the best of the play Saturday.
Disaster -- can be defined as any tragic event that may involve at least one victim of circumstance, such as an accident, fire, or explosion
Not sure Disaster is the word I'd use.
I think of disaster is this case if the Hawks were a) supposed to win b) had opportunities to win and failed to capatilize. The Hawks haven't looked good and need to do a lot of work to get up early in Game 5 if they want to get the win.

It would indeed be disastrous for the Blackhawks if they had lost this game.

If by "dominated play" you mean "mucked up the flow of the game and turned it into a snoozefest", then you are absolutely right. I'm not sure how dominating a team can be when they only muster up 15 shots on goal. You need to do more than keep all five skaters in the neutral zone to dominate a game.
