Angel Pagan Singles Home Jose Reyes for Mets Slide-Off Win [MLB Daily]
READ MORE:
MLB

Two games went late into the night, one was decided by an incredible defensive play that didn't even result in an out and the other on a close play at the plate.

Mets 4, Phillies 3 - Angel Pagan singled home Jose Reyes in the bottom of the 12th resulting in this play at the plate. As you might expect, Charlie Manuel wasn't pleased with the call: “The guy was out,” Manuel said. “He didn’t make it. Maybe Ted wanted to go home. He told me he got there first. Maybe he ought to go look at it.”
Mets have at least proven they can beat the Phillies again, but only when Jimmy Rollins is out of the lineup.

Marlins 4, Nationals 3 - Rarely do you hear a comment like this, “That was the best play I’ve ever made without catching it,” but that's the truth from Josh Willingham. Nick Johnson hit what was surely a game-tying home run that was essentially rejected from the Marlins left fielder. No homer, only one run scored, Marlins sweep.

****

Cubs 7, Pirates 3 - I can't ever remember the Cubs winning five straight while playing this poorly. Rich Hill has some issues, but thank God for Jon Lieber who already has two wins in long relief. Geovany Soto continues to be one of the better hitting catchers early this season, adding four more hits.

Reds 4, Brewers 1 - Cincinnati took two of three from previously first place Milwaukee, thanks to the closing efforts of Francisco Cordero. Ken Griffey Jr. enjoyed the inning -- “Man, they booed (you) worse than they booed me. That was tremendous!” Is this just another strong Reds April/May start or are you taking them serious this season?

Athletics 3, Blue Jays 2 - Travis Buck and the A's started the season cold at the plate. Both were fixed this week against Toronto. Buck was 7-for-16, with four RBIs in a road sweep. Is that really Keith Foulke being reliable in their bullpen or an impostor?

I think you have to think the Reds are for real based on the starting pitching they are getting.  Cueto, Harang and Volequez have been lights out.  I am not saying they will make the playoffs but things are looking even better than many Reds fans thought they would to start the season... by the way CF I don't know if you have noticed by Corey Patterson has been pretty good as well.

I don't know about the Reds being real.  They'll definitely hang around for a while with their pitching, but that line-up just isn't good, or at least not yet.  Scary thing is that so far, Dusty Baker looks like he knows what he's doing.

I'll give you that the Reds look to harang around a little longer than normal based on pitching, but as good as Cueto has been in just two starts you have to figure hitters in the Central will get more comfortable with him as the year progresses. He's not going to have a Bob Gibson sub 2.00 era season or anything.

Corey Patterson, that f-tard. Although, if you read my NL Central post I did predict he'd have a career year, FWIW. He's been a hot starter ... we'll see how long that lasts.

I am with you on Patterson I am not sold yet... but what he is doing is buying time until Jay Bruce is ready to come up.

Cueto won't go sub .200 or anything crazy like that... but what he will do is give you a chance to win the game almost every time he takes the mound, and that's all you can ask for.  The weak link in the top four starters has to be Arroyo... he has been plain bad to start the season.
