Angels Throw No Hitter That Isn't Really A No Hitter, Lose To Dodgers 1-0
It Must Suck To Be The Angels Today

The Angels managed to do something last night that's only happened 5 times since 1900. They lost a game in which they didn't give up a hit. They fell to the Dodgers 1-0.

But here's the even weirder thing, they didn't throw a no hitter either. Say what?

Yep, because the game took place at Chavez Latrine Ravine in LA, the Angels didn't pitch to the Dodgers in the bottom of the ninth, thus having only thrown 8 innings of no-hit ball, which is not deemed to be a no-hitter.

This is the third time in the expansion era (1961-on) that there has been an eight-inning no-hitter: Boston's Matt Young threw one against Cleveland in 1990, and the Yankees' Andy Hawkins threw one against the White Sox in 1992. They were officially considered no-hitters at the time, but several years ago, the rule was changed. Now, according to major league rules, an official no-hitter is "when a pitcher (or pitchers) allows no hits during the entire course of a game, which consists of at least nine innings.'' So, the no-hitters by Young and Hawkins are no longer considered no-hitters, nor is the no-hitter thrown last night by the combo of Jered Weaver and Jose Arredondo.

Totally weird, yet totally awesome at the same time.
