NBA Triple Threat: Your daily roundup of last night's action in the Association.Portland 101 Houston 99 OT Wow what a finish in the great Northwest. Brandon Roy's 18 foot jumper with 1.9 seconds looked to be the game winner, until Houston went to Yao Ming who hit a turn around jumper of his own and was fouled. Yao hit the free throw and put the Rockets up one point with only .8 seconds remaining which was just enough time. Steve Blake inbounded the ball to Roy at about 35 feet and Roy caught it, turned, fired, and the ball hit nothing but the bottom of the net as the buzzer went off, giving the Blazers the dramatic 2 point victory in overtime. Brandon Roy struggled from the field with 6-18 shooting but he hit his shots when it mattered. Roy had 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. LaMarcus Aldridge had a big game with 27 points and 9 rebounds in helping the Blazers actually outrebound the Rockets to the tune of 48-36. Tracy McGrady seems to be 100% and he did everything he could to keep the Rockets in this game with 30 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Yao Ming and Ron Artest could only muster 22 points on 7-22 shooting. Portland improves to 2-3 while the Rockets drop to 3-2.
Orlando 98 Philadelphia 88 The Magic showed tonight that they were more than just a one man team as they played the majority of this game without Dwight Howard, who was straddled with foul trouble tonight. Jameer Nelson had a season high 16 points, while Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis scored 20 points apiece. Orlando shot 45% from the field and 36% from the three point line while hitting 9 threes. When the Magic are hitting their shots, they are one of the toughest teams to beat in the NBA. Philadelphia continues to struggle this season as they seem to be out of synch in adjusting to having Elton Brand down low. Brand had only 6 points, which is his lowest total since the 2005 season, but Brand was able to grab 12 rebounds. Thaddeus Young continued to show that he has a bright future as the second year pro scored 19 points but didn't do much of anything else. Something is wrong in Philadelphia and so far this season they haven't looked near the team that everyone thought would contend for the Eastern Conference Title this season. They don't even look like a playoff team for that matter.
