Blogging the Bases: Barry Bonds Hits 755*, Ties Hank Aaron
READ MORE:
MLB
Covering all the bases from Saturday in baseball ...

Bonds hits 755* Finally is right. We are now just 1 home run away from having our baseball life back. Barry launched the record tying home run in the 2nd inning, standing to admire it in his classy fashion, and surprisingly greeted by more cheers than boos in San Diego. How priceless was Bud Selig's reaction? Stone-faced. Barely getting to his feet to stand. You also have to love the fact a plumber caught the record tying ball. On that note, let's hope Barry sinks the record today so we can move on.

A-Rod hits 500
Fitting on the day Bonds reached his mark, Alex Rodriguez would join Barry as the 22nd member of the 500 HR Club. Youngest ever to reach that mark.

Why do you have to rain on everyone's parade?

It was not surprising that there were a LOT of cheers last night.  It was a classy reaction from the Padre fans.  They witnessed history.  I would have been surprised if there were more jeers.

As much as it pains you to admit it, most people are indeed looking forward to this.  It is obvious in every ballpark Barry has played in.  Have you seen sea of flashes going off durring his at bats?  The mass exodus of fans as soon as he is removed from the game?  The fans came to see Barry.  It has been good for the game weather you like him or not.

Sorry you can't enjoy one of the few great things that have happened in MLB recently.
there are taking pictures because they are witnessing history. just because there are pictures being taken doesnt mean they WANT him to break the record. if i was there i would take pictures as well, and im one of those that dont want him to break the record at all. "sorry you cant enjoy one of the few great things that have happened in MLB recently." im sorry that a cheater breaking a record is considered one of the few great things thats happened in the MLB recently

That doesn't make any sense.  If I did not want someone to break a record, I wouldn't go out of my way to attend the event where the record I don't want to see fall is potentially broken.  And I certainly wouldn't want it recorded in still or video for posterity.
Obviously the people are there to watch the record.  Look at the streams of people leaving after Bonds gets removed from the game.  Also, witness please the amount of cheering done whenever Bonds connects in ANY ball park.
Weather Bonds has dabbled in chemistry or not, he is no cheater in any rule book.  He has legitimately earned all that he has accomplished.  Which is more than can be said for a few TEAMS in the last 10 years.

your right, they are there to break the record because the padres cant even get 45,000 real baseball fans to show up in the middle of summer during a pennant race. they have to have 10,000 fans that know nothing about the team and just want to see the record

First, the Padres draw very well on their own.

Next, I wasn't just talking about San Diego.  I was talking about LA, Milwaukee, Chicago, everywhere the Giants have been not only this season but previous ones.

But if a distortion of the truth is what you need to ease your mind...

didnt know having a paid attendance of 80% of what the stadium holds in the middle of the summer is "very well".

80% capacity for the season gives them almost 3 million fans.  I'd call that even more than 'very well'.

The weather has very little to do with attendance figures.  San Diego is no different.
If anything, the weather in San Diego would KEEP people from coming to the ball park.  It's why they play many of their weekend games at night.

You are barking up the wrong tree here.

tell me how weather has little to do with attendance. id much rather watch the game on tv when its 30-50 degrees then going to the game. and many teams have to deal with weather like that in april and into may in the north, therefore affecting attendance

Some do.  Most don't.

Stick to the issue at hand.  You are drifting off topic.
