Bobby Petrino is being called all kinds of names -- liar, classless, etc -- and most of them are fair game. However, after watching Petrino's press conference last night it's easy to see why he wanted back in the college game. Can you blame him?
His press conference was certainly unique. The applause rivaled a State of the Union address, only they really meant it here. I've watched a lot of new coach introduction press conference and am doubtful I've ever heard more enthusiasm from fans and reporters alike. It's more of a community in the college game, and more passionate fan base. Who wouldn't want to be the face of that?
Sure, his word doesn't mean a whole lot right now, but at least the man is happy.
By the way, here are the coaches in just the SEC West alone: Les Miles, Nick Saban, Houston Nutt, Tommy Tuberville, Sylvestor Croom and now Bobby Petrino. All of those are expected to win ... someone is going to be very disappointed in a very good head coach.
No argument going back to the college game. It is a purer and more fun game.
But the method he used was, as stated above, classless etc. If you are going to break a contract, and it seems to be the norm these days, go about it with some class and dignity.
Apparently he never told his players he was leaving, and only spent about 10 seconds telling his assistants he was leaving. No problem with him getting back to the college game, but the way he did it was wrong in so many ways. He's leaving a broken down franchise in shambles. At least Atlanta knows (hopefully) that they've hit rock bottom at this point and can only go up.

I'm curious if he struggles with some recruits that are Falcons fans

Yeah, I'm guessing Georgia won't be a recruitting hot bed for Arkansas. I have no clue how Arkansas does recruiting in Georgia right now but that could be interesting. I've been trying to find Arkansas's schedule to see if they play at Georgia next year but can't find one. Oh well, at least we'll get to see Saban go back to LSU and and Houston Nutt returns to Arkansas. What a crazy division.

The only 2008 schedule I could find was on Wikipedia. So take it for what it's worth. But they don't play Georgia next year.
What kind of ef'd up day was it for me, yesterday? My NFL team loses their head football coach, and he leaves to coach a school that is in Alabama's division. Petrino shouldn't count on that Christmas card from me this year.

I saw somewhere, AJC maybe, that UGA will not play ARK until 2009 at Ark and 2010 at Athens.
