Brittany Griner dunks in NCAA women's game

Everybody look, someone who is 6'8" can dunk a basketball!

This was the #1 play on Sportscenter's Top 10 last night, and has the whole internet buzzing.

Quite frankly, I don't see what the big deal is, but you can feel free to fill me in.

Yup, that's a woman dunking a basketball.

Yup, she was only the 2nd female to dunk a basketball in an NCAA tournament game.

So what?

Baylor star Brittany Griner, the dunker in the above video, is listed as 6'8".

For those of you keeping score at home, that's pretty enormous.

If you're 6'8" and in even somewhat decent physical condition, you should be able to dunk a basketball. Yes, regardless of what you have (or don't have) between your legs.

Feel free to let me know if you think I'm wrong on this one, but I find it hard to get too excited about someone simply dunking a basketball, when I've seen people do it who were a full foot shorter.

Wonder what it would look like if she actually JUMPED!  Parker's was better a few years ago.....

well growing idolizing Dr J- a dunk now is nothing too much out of the ordinary- but when you do it over people while jumping form the foul line like he use to,,,then you get my attention- Lis Leslie and Candace Parker have did more spectacular dunks for women

I'm fine with dunk highlights, if it's more than just a plain, vanilla dunk. This one was exactly that. Nothing special about it at all.

agreed.

and I can't see the pic here, so I googled Brittany Griner and have yet to see a girl :|

are you certain you know whats in between "her" legs?   (easy folks, its kinda a joke)

no offense to white people, but the headline coulda also said, 6'8 and Black...you better be able to dunk

I expect nothing less about the comments, but it was not too long ago that the highlights were over a point guard. That's right a point guard and why, you ask. He is of Asian descent, and everyone went nuts because it is not something you see that often. So lets see how many do you see drunk... not many, how many woman do you know is 6'8........ I have never seen one till Brittney Griner. People may not get excited because they are stuck in men's sports and with the same logic, I see guys do it all the time.

I'm not a big fan of "dunking" highlights either, regardless of gender. I'd rather see someone put it in the net from an odd angle, or incredibly far away (or both). Dunking competitions bore me...oh you're tall, athletic, and can dunk a basketball? Big whoop. (OK it's cool when shorties can do it)

I am right there with you Pat but I guess it's better than another Lebron highlight.

Are you nuts??!!??  LeBron highlights for the most part are awesome!! Griner's dunk was weak even for a girl, and LeBron jumps OVER dudes to dunk

The sports world is still so incredibly divided between sexes that they would, of course, make a HUGE deal over a woman dunking a basketball.  When you get looks of wonder from males when you simply "know stuff about sports" why would we expect anything different when a woman can PLAY a sport and play it well.

GASP!! OMG!!!! SHE can do that??
