NBA Triple Threat: Your daily roundup of last night's action in the Association.Chicago 101 Utah 100 Chicago is out on their annual Circus Road Trip. They haven't had a winning record on this trip since Jordan. Larry Hughes of all people hit a buzzer beater to give the Bulls the victory and improve their record on the Circus Road Trip to 2-3. Derrick Rose scored 10 of his 25 points in the 4th quarter and tied a career high with 9 assists in the win. In addition to the game winner, Larry Hughes scored 16. The Jazz were playing without All-Stars and Olympians Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer who were both out with injuries. With those two out, I am not sure who this games say more about. Either the Jazz are bad or the Bulls are bad. The video below will have the wild last 20 seconds. Ronnie Price of the Jazz however, gives us the quote of the night:
"We needed a stop somewhere in that last span. We kept trading baskets and you can't win games trading baskets, especially when they hit the last one."
Really Ronnie, when you trade baskets and neither team gets up by more than 1 point, the team who hits the last one wins? Thanks for clearing that one up for us.
New Orleans 99 LA Clippers 87 I've said it many times before, but Chris Paul is my favorite player in the NBA and he is the best point guard in the game right now. Well Paul had his 6th career triple double while David West added 27 points as the Hornets finished off the Clippers. Paul scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out a ridiculous 17 assists. The Hornets had been struggling early on this season, barely floating around .500 but three straight games against the Thunder and Clippers have the Hornets at 8-5 while the Clippers continue to struggle and were shorthanded again since Cuttino Mobley didn't take his physical so Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins were unable to play. Rookie Eric Gordon scored a career high 25 points to lead the woeful Clippers.
Portland 91 Sacramento 90 Brandon Roy continues his steller play and Greg Oden started his first game since the season opener as the Blazers were able to pull off a thrilling victory over the Kings. Roy led the Blazers with 28 points, with 16 of those coming the second half including the go ahead bucket with 11 seconds left. Oden struggled in his second start only scoring 3 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, but turning it over 4 times in only 19 minutes of play. Oden needs to be coming off the bench. He is much more effective as the first big man off the bench. The Kings are continuing to struggle without budding superstar Kevin Martin. The Kings have lost three straight and six of their last seven to fall to 2-7 this year without Kevin Martin, granted they are only 3-4 with him but it is an improvement.
