Celtics Embarrass Lakers on Way to the Title
by gearhead
6/18/08

OK, embarrassed might not be strong enough of a word. Humiliated. Obliterated maybe. Owned even. Either way, the Lakers' performance was about the same as this guy's. As such, the Boston Celtics brought home their well deserved 17th World Championship by a whopping 131-92.

The game was close...for about a quarter. The Celtics then started outplaying and outhustling LA is every facet of the game, especially on the defensive end. It doesn't matter what stat you look at, from the 48-29 rebounding advantage to another poor night from Kobe Bryant (7-22 shooting) to the Lakers' 19 turnovers, it was all Boston. All contributed to a 26-6 Celtics run to end the half, and the rout was on. There was no way LA was coming back, and they folded like a cheap suit in the second half. The back breaker came at the end of the half, on a sick and-one by Kevin Garnett posted below (thanks to Awful Announcing for uploading).

Congratulations to the Boston Celtics for winning the title. Personally, I'm especially happy for Kevin Garnett, even though after his reaction to winning, I'm not positive he'll live through the night. MVP honors went to Paul Pierce, another well deserved award. Ray Allen also came up huge tonight, with seven three pointers despite being poked in the eye early, giving him a Finals record 22 triples.

In the coming weeks, attention will turn to the draft, then to free agency and the Olympics. For now though, it's Boston's world once again.

This was gonna go in the blog itself, but it felt too self-centered, so...

Due to my impending gainful employment, this will be my last go around as the writer of the NBA Triple Threat/Nightly Recap. Our man Jubanator will be at the helm next season. It's been fun, and I thank everyone for reading.

I remember, not to long ago, that we were told to "stick a fork in the Celtics," cause they were done.
