With the Celtics now back in the Finals, going up against the Lakers no less, it's like we've gone back in time 20 years to when the NBA ruled. And to celebrate that, here's a vaguely dirty sounding video called "First Time Since '69" about the '86-'87 Celtics. The '86-'87 team was obviously trying to be the first C's team to repeat since the '69 squad. It didn't happen, and guess who stopped them? Yep, the Lakers.
But back to this year's squads. The funniest thing is a year ago no one would have ever expected these two teams to be in this year's Finals. The Celtics won 24 games last year and Kobe appeared to be on the verge of going to Chicago.
But times change. And they change quickly. The Celtics didn't get the #1 or #2 pick in the Draft, which wound up being the best thing ever. On the flip side, Jerry West decided to bolster his old squad with Pau Gasol in exchange for a steaming pile of (censored). I swear to God, every fantasy league commissioner in America would have nixed that trade in a heartbeat.
But fortunately for the Lakers, they don't have a fantasy commissioner as their commissioner. No, instead they have David Stern, who's more corrupt than the Teamsters Union.
So here we are: Celtics/Lakers. In a lot of ways, it feels so right. All I know is this - I'll be watching.
