Chicago Bulls Win NBA Draft Lottery

Will They Select A Player Or A Coach?

by CriticalFanatic CriticalFanatic | >7 days ago11 Comment Comments »

Hallelujah! How the hell did that just happen? The Bulls should have never been in this position with the talent currently on the roster, have now lucked into adding a franchise point guard or post presence.

With a 1.7% chance of winning, I really hadn't even given the slightest thought to who the Bulls would select if the ping polls bounced their way. How about a coach? On that note, this should make it much easier for John Paxson to locate someone to sit on the bench and watch Beasley or Rose to do their work.

So, Beasley or Rose? As you well know I've been a Rose guy all year. It's becoming a guards game and he can take over without even scoring. Beasley's talents don't need to be discussed. He can do it all, and we know how badly Chicago needs a low post threat.

Whether it should be a factor or not, Rose's growing up in Chicago is likely to play a role. There will definitely be a big push from Bulls fans to take the local product.

Like everyone else this morning, here's how I see the draft lottery going (fill in your take below):

1. Bulls - Derrick Rose, PG (Memphis)
2. Heat - Michael Beasley, F (Kansas State)
3. Wolves - Brook Lopez, C (Stanford)
4. Sonics - Jerryd Bayless, PG (Arizona)
5. Grizzlies - OJ Mayo, PG/SG (USC)
6. Knicks - Eric Gordon, SG (Indiana)
7. Clippers - Donte Greene, SF/PF (Syracuse)
8. Bucks -  Danilo Gallinari, SF (Italy)
9. Bobcats - DeAndre Jordan, C (Texas A&M)
10. Nets - Kevin Love, PF/C (UCLA)
11. Pacers - D.J. Augustin, PG (Texas)
12. Kings - Russell Westbrook, PG/SG (UCLA)
13. Blazers - Ty Lawson, PG (North Carolina)
14. Warriors - Darrell Arthur, PF (Kansas)

+2 thumbs up

I actually bet $20, getting 40-to-1 odds, that the Bulls would get the top pick.    I also put a separate $10, getting 25-to-1 odds on them being in the top 2.     For some strange reason, even with a 1.7% chance, I had a hunch they'd get lucky with those ping pong balls !!

With the extra caysh maybe I can be a t-shirt or 2 at the United Center now !!!

Congrats to the Bulls.

I still think the NBA lottery is a waste of pretend excitement.  Just give the worst team the first pick and so on.

I guess I'm not a fan because the Hawks never got that "big pick".  I'm scarred for life.

lol, I thought everybody was joking about Lopez going that high.  That'd be stupid.  Gordon should leapfrog Mayo too.

I'm not so sure that would be a "stupid" choice for the Wolves; they have enough guards, and could make better use of the pick with Lopez; at least his size would help inside.  If they take a post-up type player, I think that Kevin Love might be a better fit.  It will be interesting to see who new GM Jim Stack selects!!

+1 thumbs upThey also have Al Jefferson.  While he's not a prototypical C, he can bang with any of them.  If I were them I'd trade down for Brad Miller and the 12th pick and then take Love.  Let the creepy Maloofs waste a pick on a butter-soft Stanford big man.

+1 thumbs upAnd Mike D'Antoni looks even dumber now for picking the Knicks over the Bulls.

The look on his face was priceless. I wanted to coin a new term called the "Mike D'Antoni Face".

Oh man...........that was great !

You know he was thinking:

"Sh!t.....I could've had some good, young players, like Deng, Gordon, Gooden, Hinrich, AND the # 1.     And, I gave up on Nash, O'Neal, Amare, Hill & about 4 other potential all-stars.   Instead, I have loafs like Randolph, Curry, Marbury, and about 8 others.....    Thankfully, I still have my Enron stock !!!     Wait.......what ???????!!!!!!!!!!!"
