CP3 has been having a ridiculous final month of the season, putting up enough 30+ points and 10+ assist games that he's placed himself right alongside Kobe Bryant in the MVP Race.
With a race this close the award could easily come down to their performances in these final 5-6 games of the season. If voters have a short memory, Kobe may have taken the lead. Paul was limited to 4 points on 2-of-11 shooting in a horrible 66 point team output against Utah.
Chris Paul still easily gets my vote, especially if New Orleans can maintain the top record in the incredibly competitive Western Conference.
He's a staggering stat worth considering: Last Friday, Paul had his 11th 20+ point 15+ assist game of the season. The rest of the NBA combined has totaled nine such games. That's a little ridiculous. And if that's not good enough for you, he also leads the league in steals. MV3.
Kobe Bryant remains possibly the leader due in large part to being the most talented player in the league, but his ability to keep the Lakers in the NBA discussion all season is the better reasoning.
Lebron James is averaging 30.2 ppg, 7.9 rebounds and 7.3 assists. That's staggering. His recent injury and possibility of being shelved until the playoffs drops him down to third.
Kevin Garnett is also in the picture, leading the Celtics to the NBA's best record. A weak Eastern Conference plus the benefit of two other All-Stars surrounding him may hurt his case.
Deron Williams better than CP3? I'm not sure I'd sign off on that. While CP3 has David West, Williams has Boozer. Williams has a coach where even though they had a down time after Stockton/Malone passed on, he would've made his team a playoff team with Boozer and they got better with Williams. CP3 has lead the Hornets to the top of the toughest conference race in history, all this after the team hadn't done anything worthwhile since Mourning left them in Charlotte.
