Last year, Cole Hamels was the go-to guy for the Phillies. He was their best pitcher, and took home the NLCS and World Series MVP awards. This year, he has been pretty mediocre. The Phillies are probably glad they have Cliff Lee, because Hamels has been anything but the ace that he was for them last year.
It turns out, it might just be that Hamels is worn out from the busy offseason that he had, following last year's World Series win... and it's still wearing on him.
"I can't wait for it to end. It's been mentally draining. It's one of those things, a year in, you just can't wait for a fresh start."
Bad News, Phillies fans. If this series goes to 7 games, you'll have to rely on another win by Mr. Hamels, in the biggest game of the year. And he just wants to go home. That's not exactly the mentality that you want in your ace.
