College Football Picks Week 10: Florida vs Georgia, Texas vs Texas Tech
World Largest Cocktail Party Will Be Serving Up Revenge Bombs
READ MORE:

Outside of Michigan falling to Appalachian State, the highlight of my 2007 college football season was Georgia's slightly classless mass touchdown celebration after scoring first in the rivalry game versus Florida. Mike Richt insists it was a miscommunication, but hey, it set the tone for the rest of the game and the Dawgs scored a nice upset.

While the Texas-Texas Tech game gets the primetime coverage, my eyes will be focuses on the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Here's my last college picks for the year on FanIQ...

Tonight: 23 South Florida at Cincinnati [79% of FanIQ is picking the Bulls]

In the anybody-can-win Big East, this is actually a huge game despite the yawn it elicits. South Florida already has two conference losses which currently has them in Syracuse territory. Cincinnati sits at 1-1, but continually shuffles quarterbacks without any real answer. Tony Pike is possibly going to be ready to go tonight and they'll need his arm to move the ball on the Bulls, because the Bearcats aren't running. If not, freshman Chazz Anderson will have to make do. Either way, I don't expect Cincy to keep up to the Bulls in scoring in a fairly close game. USF 31-23

Saturday 2:30 NBC: Pittsburgh at Notre Dame [80% Fighting Irish]

It's too bad the Panthers got housed by Rutgers, otherwise NBC would have tried to turn this into the Game of the Century. Either way, it's still a critical game as far as both teams' respectability and bowl opportunities. Pitt was about turn one of my bold preseason predictions true by entering this game at 6-1, instead they might be even more mentally prepared to win in South Bend to prove Mike Teel passing all over their defense was a fluke. I do expect Jimmy Clausen to pass for over 300 yards, but also expect Panthers RB LeSean McCoy to have a field day on the ground and control the clock just in time for a last second, game-winning field goal. Pitt 31-30

Saturday 3:30 ABC: 24 Oregon at California [76% Golden Bears]

Since the Cal Bears fell asleep in the second half against Arizona two weeks ago, this isn't getting the national attention, but still a very critical game as far as the Pac-10 is concerned. California has USC next week, but can't look ahead as a loss here would all but eliminate them from the conference race. Quarterback play will continue to define these two teams. While the Bears search for consistency, Oregon searches for a big game guy. Masoli played well last week in a surprising blowout against Arizona State, but this should be different. I think Jahvid Best makes enough plays and Nate Longshore keeps the turnovers at a minimum for a close win. Cal 34-27

Saturday 3:30 ABC: 15 Florida State at Georgia Tech [69% Seminoles]

Just to turn the ACC into a total mess, you all should be rooting for GT, if you weren't already. Florida State is actually in good position to win the Atlantic Division while the Yellow Jackets are now in must-win territory if they want a piece of the Coastal. At this rate only Clemson and NC State are out of it. I expect Georgia Tech's disciplined, maddening option approach will get the best of the young Seminoles and get them trying to over-pursue and get out of their gaps. GT runs for 300, wins by 3. Heckuva Engineer 23-20

Saturday 3:30 CBS: 8 Florida vs 6 Georgia [62% Gators]
One of my favorite games of the year, mostly because I choose to honor it at home with the world smallest, lamest cocktail party. This version will have some added intrigue thanks to the video at the top. Does Urban Meyer respond by a) running out to the endzone himself to celebrate the first Gator touchdown or b) tell his team to be completely emotionless or c) send a live gator to go devour UGA or d) create-your-own-entry. Seriously, I want to hear what you would do. I personally would adjust the Gators unis to all black, but not change into those until just before the final entrance. Although the best comeback would be to simply beat the Georgia Bulldogs and I expect they'll get in done in part because of the chip on the shoulder and in part because the Florida offense is starting to become unstoppable. Gators 31-Dawgs 27

Saturday 8:00 ABC: 1 Texas at 6 Texas Tech [75% Longhorns]

Despite the fact I've been dogging the Red Raiders all year for being overrated, this matchup sets up well for Texas Tech. This is the Longhorns fourth straight big game and any coach will tell you how hard it is just get their kids UP for two big games in a row, let alone four. The potential for fatigue and flat play are definitely high. HOWEVA, this is the first game where Texas Tech will face a solid pass rush and a balanced offense capable of scorching their supposedly improved defense. I would not be surprise to see TTU get out to an early 14-point lead, only for Colt McCoy to stamp the Heisman his with a four quarter comeback thanks to over 100 yards rushing. Longhorns 45-41

Upset Picks

Miami over Virginia (might not be an upset according to some outlets)
Clemson over Boston College
Auburn over Ole Miss
Iowa over Illinois

I really like Texas Tech at home but I'm scared to death this will be the game where Mike Leach does something foolish and it ends up turning the game around and costing his team.

As for my upsets...I like West Virginia over UCONN, Arkansas over Tulsa, California over Oregon, Georgia Tech over Florida State and Colorado State over BYU

If Texas beats Texas Tech will have any team gone through a more difficult stretch unbeaten in recent memory?

No.

Sad thing is, with a win on Saturday; they still have to be ready for the Big XII Championship Game before they can even think about the BCS.

Thank goodness you went first this week.

Well Jason, this means that this is my last chance to disagree with you this year, which sucks. (Jason is right about 99% of the time when I disagree, so I am obviously just here for entertainment).

In the battle of overhyped teams, I just don't think Pitt has what it takes to go into Southbend and win this week.  I said that about their game @ South Florida too, but USF looks like a team unraveling right now.  I don't think ND is a powerhouse by any means, but I think they are more put together than USF.  At least mentally.

I really want to pick Georgia, but with the emotions from last season coming into this one, I like the Florida pick.

My upsets:  Minnesota takes Northwestern lightly and loses the one game that they were expecting to win in this stretch.  I have nothing to back it up, but I have a hunch about Utah going to New Mexico this weekend.  It just looks like an upset game.  (for the record, and if I am keeping correct count, I am 1-72 with my hunches this year).

Oh yea, I'm picking Florida also because there is no way in hell that I want to see Georgia for a second time this season in the SEC Championship game if we are lucky enough to get there.

Even if Florida is the better team, the chances of beating a good team like Georgia twice in the same season are pretty difficult.  And I would much rather be in the underdog role in that game if we get there, which I'm sure will be the case if it is against Florida.

Don't forget that they still have to play at Kansas before the championship game too.

I would love to see Tech beat Texas..... but I don't see it happening.  They're waaaay too talented on both sides of the ball (but especially on D) to get beat this year.  I'm hoping it will be close and a great game!
Florida over UGA soley based on the team end-zone dance last year, the Gators look like they've found themselves offensivelly and will be inspired.
Pitt has a history for coming up short of their competition.... look for them to lose to the Irish who are starting to make Chucky Weis look a little like the genius he thinks he is.
I like the triple option single-wing Yellow Jackets against an over-rated FSU team.
The Ducks are clicking on all cylinders now offensively following a beat down of Sparky in Tempe and Cal has been completely unimpressive this season on the road and at home.... Oregon wins big at Cal.
