College Football Recap: Saturday's Top 10 Results
Big XII Top Schools Try To One Up Each Other On The Scoreboard
READ MORE:

Seriously, did some of the Top 10 coaches text each other before Saturday's game with a "how much can you score" challenge?

The scoreboards got a workout yesterday and here's some thoughts on the 10 most important results:

#7 Georgia 52, #13 LSU 38 Remember when the Tigers had a vaunted defense? I think it was just last year. This year LSU has allowed 52 points in two of the last three weeks. One more who will not be having a great day is Les Miles. Credit Knowshon Moreno for 163 tough yards and reminding everyone he's still one, if not the top back in the country.

#1 Texas 28, #6 Oklahoma St. 24 Much closer, and lower scoring, than I expected. Maybe Mike Gundy and Mack Brown were left off the memo. Baring a major collapse in November, Colt McCoy has pretty much wrapped up the Heisman Trophy. Saturday he completed 38 of 45 passes (!) for 391 yards in a tough win. His completion percentage is now 81.8.

#3 Penn St. 13, #9 Ohio St. 6 Typically, the Big Ten wasn't going to be involved in any high scoring fun. Instead two of the best defenses in the country (?), or at least the Midwest, battled it out. Terrelle Pryor had stood up to every challenge thus far, but lost the football on a big 4th quarter 3rd and 1 run. At 9-0, Penn State is now in great position to piss everyone off and crash the BCS Championship Game party. I wouldn't rule out an upset loss at Iowa this week. In fact, I might just go ahead and predict that right now.

#8 Texas Tech 63, #23 Kansas 21 This could have been much, much worse. Texas Tech had 56 points early into the 3rd quarter and called off the dogs shortly thereafter. Graham Harrell is likely to earn a trip to New York if he continues at this pace, throwing for 5 touchdowns and 386 yards, while running for another score. Most noteworthy is the Red Raiders defense stepping up and allowing Todd Reesing to pass for just 154 yards. Next up Texas Tech hosts the Longhorns for a chance... a chance at the Big XII title.

#10 Florida 63, Kentucky 5 You guessed it. Dear Molly Yanity, please stop ranking the Wildcats. They aren't very good. It'll be interesting to see where the Gators move in the polls. 10th makes Florida the most underrated team in the country. Don't rule them out of the BCS just yet.

Minnesota 17, Purdue 6 7-1 is 7-1. The schedule has been light, but the Gophers keep on winning and for that Tim Brewster is applauded. Minnesota has four winnable games left and could very well represent the Big Ten in the Citrus Bowl... and get completely destroyed. For the Big Ten's sake, let's hope Northwestern steps up it's play Saturday in Minneapolis.

Duke 10, Vanderbilt 7 Big win for David Cutcliffe in the SAT Bowl. Not exactly a pretty win, but the Blue Devils are 4-3 and just maybe have enough in them to get to 6-6. It's going to take a couple years, and Cutcliffe might not be around after that, but Duke is going to rise up the ACC.

Miami (FL) 16, Wake Forest 10 Another ACC coach earns a big win for new coaching tenure. Randy Shannon needs to get the Hurricanes to a bowl game in his second season and prove he's changing the culture in Miami.

Louisville 24, #16 South Florida 20
I guess the theme of the week is about coaches needing to show they are making progress. Steve Kragthorpe hasn't exactly impressed at Louisville, but this win over a ranked opponent could give the Cardinals the confidence it needs to stay in the Big East race. Honestly, I think just about everyone but Syracuse could win the conference this year. So why not UL?

Virginia 24, #18 Georgia Tech 17 Ring up the 4th straight win for Al Groh and the Cavaliers, and the second straight win over the 18th ranked team in the country. Believe it or not, Virginia is in 1st place of the Coastal Division and "controls its own destiny." After a 1-3 start and a 31-3 pounding from Duke, this is quite an unexpected development in the anything goes ACC.
