Curtis Granderson's Spectacular Catch Sunday Against Boston
READ MORE:

Since it wasn't the playoffs, this will likely get overlooked, but at least for today we can marvel at Curtis Granderson's catch as one of the best of the year.

What was the best play of the 1st half of the season? If you can find links to video please throw them into the comments and combine them in a post.

I'm so impressed with Granderson this year anyways! He is playing amazingly and this play just kind of shows all of the people that don't get to see him daily, what kind of player he really is! We'll be seeing MUCH more of Granderson in seasons to come

Yeah I really like Mario and Rod. I can't stand watching the ESPN games because none of them even come close to Mario and Rod! I wish all of the Tigers game were on FSND

Granderson is among the elite outfielders of the major leagues.  He is one of the few who can bring 5 solid tools to the game.  He has a great glove, as this play more than demonstrates.  He is also leading all outfielders in extra-base hits and top 10 in assists.  He's also one of the few who have yet to be caught stealing.

I agree he is also WAYY Underrated and should be in the All-star game this year.

Leyland had a very hard choice to make though and he had several guys that he HAD to take because their team hadn't been represented yet (I hate that rule BTW). So at the end he only had 2 that he could actually pick and there were definately more than 2 that deserved to go. Someone's always going to get left off, but Grandy will be there in the very near future (probably next year).

He is definately one of the elite outfielders and people are starting to realize that. He won't be underrated for long if he keeps putting up the kind of numbers that he has this season.

I agree, the best players are the ones that should get to go regardless of what team they come from. They say that they have to take someone from every team so that every team gets the rewards from it. But I'm thinking, why does someone from the Royals need to go. They are never going to get a chance to benefit from a possible AL win! Right?

In terms of Granderson going to the allstar game, I think he would've been a worthy candidate, but in terms of the outfielders that went, I think he made the right decision in who was there.  Crawford and Rios were both there because of Team requirements, which I am a fan of.  I like the fact that no matter what team you root for, you have atleast one guy there to root for.  Torii Hunter is just bashing the living crap out of the ball, the only outfielder who I think is outslugging Granderson.  Now although Manny Ramirez is having a bad year for Manny Ramirez, he's still batting .284, with 11 HR's and 45 RBI's.  Plus, he's only made 1 error this year, which for him is Gold Glove worthy.  Now, the only person who I think Granderson easily could've replaced, and probably deserved to replace is Grady Sizemore.  There numbers are eerily similar.  Sizemore's batting .280, Granderson is .283.  HR's 15 to 12, RBI's 46 to 43.  Now where Sizemore wins is his swing selection.  He may have 9 more K's, but he has 54 walks to Granderson's 27.  His OBP is 60 points higher, and he has 15 more stolen bases.  Granderson's main advantage is his glove and his extra base power.  Sizemore is a very good fielder, but Granderson is a top tier fielder, up there with the likes of Torii Hunter.  When it comes to these two, I would choose Granderson, but I think Leyland had to worry about seeming biased by choosing 3 of his guys to be back-ups when he already had 3 starters.

You are right, DanHodgson, about all of the guys that got to go ahead of Grandy. We could all make a case for Grandy but the fact is that there are just TOO many people that deserved to go. Grandy understands why he got overlooked because that's the kind of guy he is, he was happy enough to see how many fans voted for him as a write-in (a VERY impressive number). He knows that he will be there in the future as long as he keeps improving. He's already an elite centerfielder who covers more ground then I think I've seen anyone do. His batting is coming around more since his swing has been redone by Lloyd and he will only get better because he's a young guy and he's ALWAYS willing to work hard to improve something. I love his work ethic and he is the superstar CF of the future. He just happened to be outdone a little this year.

And I agree that Leyland probably didn't want to seem biased towards his own team and he sort of showed that to me during the game.
