Racing can be terrifying sometimes, and today's IRL at Michigan International Speedway showed why. While leading the race, Dario Franchitti and Dan Wheldon touched wheels. Wheldon went into the wall, and he was the lucky one. Franchitti flew into the air, got upside down, and flipped multiple times. The video is something to behold.
I've been in 3 wrecks. Once a friend flipped his Camaro going about 55, neither had a scratch on us. Truck pulled out in front of me... not a single scratch. The other one, I don't really remember... was very young. Seems like I'm not the only lucky one out there... lol. Now that I say that, I'm going to jinx myself.
That was scary to watch live today, but it was great that everyone made it through without any serious injuries. Foyt's helmet had a skid mark on it from Franchitti's tire. That's how close he came to getting hurt too. Amazing video... the safety of those cars is just fantastic. Once Franchitti got just a bit in the air, his car was like a piece of paper. I hope he got a lot of attention from Ashley tonight because he is one lucky man once again.
So glad no one got hurt! What was Weldon doing? Did I see it correctly and he came up into Dario? Rubbing is racing only if you have fenders.
How does a driver that just experienced this ordeal get back into a car this week and try to go fast? Guess you gotta ride with a cougar or something. These drivers are either Barney Fife or John Wayne, can't quite decide.
