Dayton Dragons Brawl With The Peoria Chiefs
The Week Of The Brawl
READ MORE:

Either the heat of summer or the boredom of only hearing about Brett Farve day after day is starting to get to people.

First we had a soccer Riot during a not so friendly between West Ham United and the Columbus Crew this past weekend, then Danica Patrick confronted Milka Duno in the pit in Ohio, then on Tuesday night, the WNBA had their own fight night in Detroit. Now we head out to Dayton, Ohio for a brawl between the Dayton Dragons (Single A affiliate of the Reds) and the Peoria Chiefs (Single A affiliate of the Cubs).

After a few early bean balls that knocked out one player and another being taken out on a stretcher, things escalated quickly in the bottom of the 1st. Yeah, they didn't waste a lot of time.

I'll let  the Dayton Daily News tell the rest of the story:
Julio Castillo then threw a pitch close to Brandon Menchaca's head, prompting Dayton manager Donnie Scott to leave the third base coaching box and complain to home plate umpire Tyler Wilson. That prompted interim Peoria manager Carmelo Martinez to join the conversation, which quickly became heated, and when Martinez pushed Scott, the benches emptied. Several fights broke out behind home plate, and Castillo threw a ball that sailed into the stands behind the Dragons' dugout, hitting a fan who had to be taken to a hospital. Menchaca jumped on Castillo and eventually both managers and 15 players — including eight Dragons — were ejected from the game.
Castillo was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He faces a felonious assault charge. Just a crazy scene in what has already been a crazy week. Just remember folks, it's only 34 days until football season starts.

Here's another view of the fight with some NSFW language.

Even though Manager Ryne Sandberg wasn't there, I think you can lay this squarely on him. He has been ejected from about 8 games this season already and had been suspended for three games for confronting the opposing manager. I am all for instilling some fight in your club, but this is ridiculous.

Also, how did the Chiefs pitcher not get tossed from the game after hitting two players in one inning, one of them in the head, and throwing close to another batter's head? Hell, after the 1st retaliatory plunking, both dugouts should have been warned and that should have been the end of it. Bad job by the umps as well.

Well, at least we ended the week with a bonafide brawl, complete with a felony charge.

I'm frightened that there's still two days left in the week.

I just realized that it's this Peoria Chiefs team (Cubs a-ball) that will be playing at Wrigley Field on Tuesday.

Um, I think attendance just took a serious hit.

Are you kidding?  Every thug White Sox fan will be at that game.  White Sox fans will show up to show those minor leaguers how to brawl.

Well we seem to be getting pretty violent here in Ohio. I am now waiting for something to happen in the Nasty Nati.

Now there will be some Cubs fans who will rumble as well, just ask Chad Krueter.

Who would have thought that Carmelo "the Marshmello" would be starting a fight?

If Castillo would have thrown that ball into the crowd on the South Side, he would have gotten his ass kicked by every fan in the stadium.  Look what the Sux fans did to the Royals 1st base coach and he was just standing there doing nothing.

How on earth did this become a Sox fan bashing thread?

Not intentional.  Critical Fanatic made the comment that it would hurt attendance at Wrigley.  Brawling and Chicago just fit in with the White Sox.  Cubs fans are too busy drinking Old Style to even know what the score is let alone pay attention to a fight.

I like when people aren't fighting but they are in the middle of it so they kind of bounce up and down.  That always cracks me up.  You see it in mosh pits a lot to.

There should be some kind of promotion where you get a free Subway Sandwich if at least 15 players get ejected in any one game!!!

Yea and Chad Kreuter was just egging on those Cub fans when they took his hat then started fighting himn when he entered the stands...Everyone at the Gaybar (Wrigley) must be innocent

The guy that threw the ball into the stands should be suspended for the season.  Plus Class A games only have 2 umpires, so I am sure that didn't help the situation at all.
