I love the NBA dunk contest. But even I'll admit that it hasn't been all that great for a while now. Most of the time, it's just a bunch of guys you've never heard of, and there's never a big star in it. Luckily though, last year we were treated to Dwight Howard's epic Superman performance. However, I feared that after that we'd fail to see Howard again. That he'd pull a Vince Carter and just hang 'em up. Luckily though, I was wrong.
Dwight Howard has committed to defending his slam dunk crown this season in the NBA dunk contest and, in all honesty, this year's group is pretty decent. Right now, Howard, Rudy Gay, and former champ Nate Robinson have all committed. Let's take a look back at some of their work.
Here's Dwight with the Superman dunk, which I realize there's still a debate going on about whether it was a dunk or not. Whatever, I enjoyed it.
This Howard dunk was even more insane in my opinion.
Now here's Rudy Gay, who's not exactly some scrub out there.
And last but not least, let's not forget Nate Robinson, who did win the dunk contest a few years back. And remember, dude's only like 5'8".
The 4th contestant will be voted on by the fans, and they'll be able to choose between one of three rookies: Bucks forward Joe Alexander, Trail Blazers forward Rudy Fernandez or Thunder guard Russell Westbrook. Personally, I implore you all to vote for Fernandez. Why? Because he made Dwight Howard his bitch in the Olympics, that's why.
You know if Rudy's in this thing, Dwight will do something to try and show him up, like attempt an inverted backflip dunk. Let's make it happen.
