ESPN Makes Commercial Mocking Their Own Coverage Of Brett Favre

Even ESPN, The Masters Of Beating A Dead Horse, Are Sick Of Their Own Brett Favre Coverage

We've hit the Brett Favre story as often as anyone, so I admit some guilt as well, but it's good to see that ESPN is willing to make fun of themselves a little bit with this one. And now we know how they relay information, which would also explain how they occasionally mis-report some huge stories. Apparently Chris Mortensen is on the other side of the building from where this clever game of "telephone" starts, so sometimes a few words get mixed up. It's not the anonymous sources, it's the middle men.

I'm not talking about myself exclusively.  I'm using a sarcastic "we" that doesn't play well in type.  Your response is exactly what I mean about the people that DO complain about ESPN and their coverage (or non-coverage) of certain events.  Did you miss my reply to Pat?

I wonder if they are going to have Charlie Steiner in the new Melrose Place this fall, reprising his roll as the pool boy, rubbing cocoa butter on the ladies? rofl

Do something wrong or unappealing, make a very funny self-deprecating commercial, then all is forgiven!  And we all go back to watching ESPN as if nothing happened.  You wonder why ESPN will never die?

So don't watch it if you hate it so much.

Ummm... because there are no other all-sports TV networks that are even slightly comparable? As much as I hate some things that ESPN does, they're still better than anything else out there. That's why they can get away with so much of their crap.

I agree with you.  I don't mind ESPN as much as a lot of other people who constantly complain about it yet continue to watch it.  There are other sources of information in the sports world, yet people act like ESPN is all there is.  In general I don't like when people complain about the very things they are using/consuming themselves.  That's not limited to ESPN-bashing.

too bad they really did have to over blow the Favre story so that they'd be able to make this funny commercial afterward. I wish they didn't cover Favre and didn't make the commercial, frankly .

Last Friday, I posted a piece about the making of this commercial from the mascot's perspective: Sam the Minuteman's Excellent ESPN Adventure. Nice ad.
