ESPN Planning On Switching NCAA And NBA Announcers For A Night On January 7
Dick Vitale Will Have One Chance To Assault The Eardrums Of NBA Fans, As Well
I hate Dick Vitale. Everyone loves to talk about his passion for the game and how he is an ambassador for college basketball, but I disagree. He is an outrageously annoying, incredibly biased, pompous ass, who does nothing but harass his viewers every time he steps in front of a television camera or behind a microphone. The fact that he actually made it into the Hall of Fame by acting like a giddy Duke fanboy for 30 years is disgusting to me.

Thankfully, I'm not a big fan of the Heat or the Nuggets, either. If I was, I'd be out of luck on January 7, because that's when ESPN came up with the brilliant idea of removing Vitale and their NCAA crew from their element, and swapping them with the NBA announcing crew for a day.

Thankfully, that's the only time we'll have to see Vitale covering the NBA (for now). Mike Tirico, Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy will cover the Duke vs Stephen Curry Davidson game, while Vitale and Dan Schulman will take the Heat and the Nuggets. ESPN has apparently left open the option of doing more of this in the future.

As much as I can't stand him, I will still give Dickie V a little credit. At least he does know how to have a good time once in a while:

Well, at least we should get unbiased announcers for the Duke vs Davidson game.

Unbiased announcers, ESPN - the two just don't together.

I guess less biased announcers would've been more accurate.

By the way, congrats to your Richmond Spiders.

Considering good ole' Dicky V's lifetime record as coach of the Pistons, is he even qualified to analyze an NBA game?  Better yet, he thinks Tyler Hansbrough is going to be a great NBA player.  Oh, yeah get me on that "Psycho T" bandwagon.  Undersized "hustle players" who can't shoot are destined for the All-Star game every time.  Can you say Mark Madsen.

Very true Mike - "less biased" on ESPN = Totally onesided on any other network.

...and THANKS for the Congrats - It is just unbelieveable... I guess this is what the Florida/Texas/USC/Wisconson/etc. fans feel like.  Never thought I would see it in my lifetime!

Dick Vitale was a decent play by play caller when I was growing up in the 1990's.  During that time period he still called the game that was being played on the court, whether it was biased or not.  The problem I have had with him for years now is that he does not call the game.  For two hours he gives his opinion from the big headlines in every sport to politics to god knows what else.    As a result, it is almost impossible to watch/follow a game he is calling because Vitale is screaming 80% of the time about subject matter that has nothing to due with the current game being played.  I have no idea why he went down this road because I do not know of any knowledgable sports fan that likes him, and a whole generation of sports fans do not realize that he was not always like this.

It makes no sense for him to call an NBA game because his niche is College Basketball.  My guess is that all this is a ratings ploy by ESPN to try to see if he can increase their NBA TV ratings.  I guess the "suits" figure that the since the College Basketball games he calls have high ratings (for college baskeball) that it means the NBA Games will have high ratings.  However, my guess that the College Basketball games he calls has high ratings is because he normally calls the "Big Games", and the ratings are due to the matchup not Vitale.
